Oh, that's a long story. The short version is that one of the Lunarians came down to our planet to help us against one of his own kind. A rogue Lunarian decided that he didn't want humans and Lunarians to share the planet in the future, that he might as well take it over for his own people right now. He didn't succeed -and his actions weren't supported by the others- but the journey to stop him was what revealed all that knowledge to us.
