markofthebrave: This was recently drawn for me, so I'd appreciate if you waited a bit before taking! (The Look of Hope)
Hi, everybody. I know it's been a while since I've spoken to all of you this way, but I've been thinking about everything that's going on and... I understand why everyone has focused on their weaknesses. I know - and I appreciate - what everyone has been saying.

But as important as it is that we identify our weaknesses, it's also important to understand that we are not just comprised of weaknesses - it is the strength of our hearts that makes us who we are. We need to know what our weaknesses are in order to surpass them, but we shouldn't so focus on what makes us weak that we forget the rest of who it is that we are. I remember when the moon turned to blood, and the worst parts of our histories haunted us, following us with sounds and images...

We endured that. We are still here. We are still alive.

I don't know how they're going to target our weaknesses - but in battle, any weakness is always targeted. Let's take steps to address them, but after that, let's remember our strengths. Let's remember what we've been through. Let's remember who we are, who and what is important to us.

[It is the strength of our hearts that makes us who we are. She'd set that before. And it hadn't made a bit of difference - not until someone stood up. And not until someone who loved him stood up for him...]

And let's remember that we don't always have to be the one who is strong. We have friends and family to support us - we are not alone. Even if we have to face whatever is coming individually - we are not alone. I am so grateful to everyone here who has proved that to me.

If you'd like, you can use the space to share stories of times when you've overcome something you thought would defeat you - or times when a friend has had your back. Let's remember who we are.

[And yes, she realizes after the fact that she's focused on 'remember who we are' a number of times, but... there's a chance that, going back, now they can. In her years in Luceti, Katara has really come to value the power of memories, and just how much they form who it is that she is. She's sobered and humbled by the thought of being able to return home as she is. And... well.. other things have got her mind spinning as well.

Action:
And, in a contemplative mood, it would not be hard to find Katara in the tea shop, sampling different flavors.

Or perhaps later, doing a contemplative kata with her waterbending.]
markofthebrave: (One Man Shift in the Weather)
[Today was Nami's birthday, and even though the other girl was no longer in Luceti - and there was a part of her that was viciously glad for that - Katara missed her very-near-birthday-buddy. Her own birthday was in two short days, and she didn't want to think of how old she'd grown, or about having a party now that the ocean was gone and so many things had changed.

Instead, she took the day off from work and put on a simple green dress in the style Nami had favored, put some special pin in her hair, and made her way up to the mikan grove carrying a bag of pruning tools. Anyone is welcome to come along, but it will be hot, thirsty work.

And that is why when she's finished, Katara decides to take up her fruit slushy stand once more. It's been years since she first did this with Sokka -- maybe he'd be interested in manning the fruit slicing again, if she can find him to track him down -- and if not, she'll take care of it. So if you want a delicious and fresh fruit slushy waterbended fresh from the fountain? Come on by. Katara's giving out gifts for her birthday in the square.]
markofthebrave: (Heh | Yeah)
Day 1
Ever wonder what Katara would be like if she was a ten year old who'd spend the last two years in Luceti? Now's your chance to find out!

Days the rest
In which Katara's personality is affected: The horrible depression that she hasn't been able to shake since Sokka left? Gone. She is suddenly much happier.

Oh, also. There's teleportation. And thought bubbles. She apologizes if she ends up with her hand on your tea.

The last 4 days
Katara grew up in New York, the younger sister of Kate Bishop. Unfortunately, she had these... powers. She's learning how to deal with them while trying to save the world, you know, as one does as a Young Avenger.
markofthebrave: (Hidden | A Storm Within)
[Katara is not doing well.

I know - I know I go back. I know I have something I need to finish. But how long is it going to be, Sokka? Other people, it seems like they go and come back all the time. And I can't help but wonder when it's going to be you and - and if it will ever be me."

"Sometimes I think it will never be me. But I can't do this without you."

But it had been him. It had been him, just like she'd been afraid it would be. And now the one person she had always known had her back was gone. She knew it wasn't fair, but she felt alone.

And angry. And helpless. And hurt. And angry.

"Sometimes I think it will never be me. But I can't do this without you."

She should have told him. She wasn't sure she could do this without him either.

Katara let Aang make the announcement. She didn't want to have to deal with his friends grief on top of her own. Maybe it was selfish, but maybe there was a time for that. There wasn't enough to do. She didn't really want to see anybody, but this wasn't like when she'd lost her mom. There were no emergencies. There was nothing to distract her.

But she couldn't stand being in the house Sokka had expanded, not after cleaning it from the second floor on down. If you're in the house, it's probably best not to get in her way.

Once that's done, there's still not enough to do. She goes out to practice bending by the river and takes her bo with her, just in case she wants to practice that too. But she mostly ends up sitting on a rock by the river, her feet dangling down and almost touching the water.]
markofthebrave: (Apple)
Day One
[Katara can hardly believe what's happening -- one minute, she was standing in a battlefield of fallen droids, as they had come for Ikki again and everyone in the house was giving them all they had -- the next she and everyone else has been shifted to the moon and her bending is gone. She's injured from her battle, and there's no doubt others have suffered similarly, but she's not able to simple heal them anymore. Fortunately she has more mundane training as well, and she is quite good at it.

First aid is administered as she listens to the spiel regarding where they are and why they are there. She never thought she'd be this grateful for the Battle Dome. After a brief consultation with Sokka and Aang, she heads over to the Battle Dome, where they are still able to have their powers. She works with whoever else is there to set up a temporary medical station, healing her own injuries from fighting the droids and prepared to do the same for anyone else who may have had similar problems. She makes plans to go and visit there for a few hours during the day, just in case something comes up. Like say, for example, a Third Party Attack. Or any amusement park related injuries.

She won't be the only one in there -- there is an oddly graceful woman with green hair that Katara seems to be friends with, her old friend from Kincorra, Willa. The dryad doesn't seem to have any interest in the rides, and is spending her free time resting.]

All the Other Days
[When she's not in the Battle Dome Emergency Medical Center she set up, Katara will be with Aang and Ikki for the most part, though she very easily gets bored waiting on line. The rides are nice, but she would rather talk to the people, learn about the different enclosures... even try to find out more from some of the Malnosso there.

Katara recognizes most of the rides in Thrill Land and is willing to wait on the lines for some of them -- she enjoys roller coasters tremendously. She is TERRIBLE at Casino Land (though she quite enjoys the buffet), refuses to enter Bubble Land (even goes on a tirade about it to one of the poor Malnosso workers), and isn't exactly sure how she feels about Cartoon Land. On the other hand, she quite likes Junior Land and is intrigued by Halloween Land. Maybe, once she feels safe enough, later on in the week, that murder mystery house will claim one other occupant... ]
markofthebrave: (Two Tiny Seas)
[Day one Katara explores the house And then she begins to adapt...]

Okay. Okay. So they're in some sort of strange... place. With strange things. And she apparently has a house here. Katara can... sort of deal with that. And that's good, because there's an awful lot to deal with.

She can be found:

1) At the library. Maybe there's some sort of clue in the books there... but... oh my gracious, who put this book in the middle of the library stacks? Blushing, she quickly puts the book down. Probably.

2) In the supermarket. Did you know this place is awesome? Because it is. It's awesome. It's got meat that you don't have to kill, skin, or prepare in any other way than taking it out of its really strange package. And these boxes are a m a z i n g. They've got food in them! All different kinds of things the likes of which she has never seen before. And then she gets to the soda and candy aisle...

3) By the rivers, trying to waterbend. Protip: she's not very good at it at all. But it's the first time she's ever had so much time to actually practice! Maybe she'll master that wave move...

And of course, Katara will also be wandering all about the village, and be extremely curious about anyone she meets. Don't be too surprised if you're approached by a dark-haired, blue-eyed girl who just wants to introduce herself and get to know you better. After all, it's been a long time since she's been around so many people, and she's sure you're probably fascinating.

[July 5th. Katara's 18th birthday.

Today was a day to celebrate life.

After breakfast and kissing Ikki, Katara would take whoever wanted to come with her up to Nami's orchards. It had been Nami's birthday two days ago, and she wanted to check on the mikans. She left a small pinwheel at the foot of one of the trees.

It wasn't too warm today and she felt something different, so she actually stopped in the clothing shop to change out of her sari into a knee-length dress very similar to a style Nami had helped pick out for her shortly after she had arrived in Luceti. She still wore her belt around it, more to keep the knife that Sokka had made for her close and to have something to string her waterskin around than because she was actually expecting trouble.

She hasn't really been into the Seventh Heaven since Sanji left, though she had been a regular presence before, stopping in at least once a day to say hi. Today, she came in with a vase full of beautiful blue hydrangeas. She may even be persuaded to take lunch there.

Afterwards, depending on how much time she had left before whatever Aang and Ikki had planned, Katara could be found helping out for a little while in the Welcome Center, and then stopping in on Luceti's newest stores, the coffee shop and the convenience shop Shikamaru had set up.]
markofthebrave: (Smile)
[It happened quickly. One moment she was fourteen, her back aching as the wings stretched across scars, the next she was seventeen and the relief of pain was almost dizzying. The memories sorting in and through her were easily as dizzying.

She fell down to her knees as her two lives collided and when she rose, both sets of memories were confused, but she knew who she was. And she wanted to see her family. She didn't walk. She ran all the way home.

Much later, she made a post to her journal, filtered to her friends.]

Hi, everyone. I know that I don't say this enough and... I know that this month is kind of stressful. But I just wanted to say how glad, how really glad I am to have met all of you. I don't say it enough. You're all people I've come to rely on, and I'm so glad you're in my life.

...and I remember you now, just in case you were wondering. I hope I'll see you all very soon.

((OOC: If you're wondering if you're on her friends filter, you probably are! If you want to run into her resuming her normal routine the 8th-9th, that's OK too!))
markofthebrave: (This Is Not the End)
[Katara has now had some time to adjust to this strange new place. She's stalked the people she supposedly knows. She's read back in the book. She's gone so far as to attempt the new technology that would take her to the ocean and back and found how truly trapped they were.

Now that everything was a little less raw, the crushing certainty that she was trapped here with people who claimed to know her, people who claimed to be her family, demanded a response.

She couldn't just run away. It was a failing of hers. The only reason she'd run was if it was to form a better plan of attack. But how could you attack when the threat was... being known? Or... being known enough. There were questions and she wanted answers.

So while Katara wasn't overtly looking for anyone who claimed to know her, she was willing to let herself be found, and wandered into places where that would be quite easy.]

[ Katara ]
Back to her proper age and alignment since this morning, Katara has no memories of even being away - she thinks today is just a regular day. A regular day surrounded by strange people who have no wings. And is that a giant plastic whale? What?

Properly bundled against the cold, she makes her way into town the fun way - using bending to iceboard down the river. Once in town, she heads into the grocery store.

[ Rogue ]
Rogue hates the sudden crowd. She's tempted to just bundle up into her room and wish it all away. But she's got a job to do and an Item Shop shift to fill, so she'll be keeping to her regular routine unless she cracks and runs to the mountains. Part of her is hoping to see someone she knows. It's been a long time, after all, and she'd like to see some friends...

[ Molly Carpenter ]
Molly is having an interesting time of it. One moment she's at her proper age in the early twenties, the next she's nine years old. Age hiccups. Who would have thunk?

Fortunately, or unfortunately, her clothes are growing and shrinking along with her, and she has no idea what's going on. But there are so many new people here! Molly wants to try to understand what's going on, while younger Molly feels somewhat shy about all the strangers and is compensating for it by being somewhat brash.

(ooc: Please feel free to let me know if you want older or younger Molly!)

[Action: Locked to Nephry]
[It makes no sense for a known and proud waterbender to step out of the fountain in the middle of winter and remain soaking wet. But yet, that is exactly what she is doing: getting out of the fountain, her arms wrapped around herself, shivering, and looking both confused and frightened... and younger. About three years younger, to be exact.]

[Open action.]

Katara, properly attired to face the winter thanks to your friendly neighborhood Clothing Shop, can be seen:

a) Stopping and staring at the snow, as if she hasn't seen any in a very, very long time
b) Entering the Welcome Center to get the maps/layout of the place
c) Stalking House 56. She will not enter. She will likely not be seen, as she is administering a frightening amount of skill at sticking to the shadows, but you might catch her as she starts to walk away...
d) Checking out a Community Building for a spare room.

((Katara, returned from her mallynap, is experiencing this AU. Feel free to bump into her anywhere, but don't be too surprised if she doesn't respond to her name. It's been a long time since she's called herself anything Water Tribe.))
markofthebrave: (Confident | Bellydancer in Another Life)
Part the first:
[Katara fell into the shower after a long day of confusion. All the confused introductions in the morning had left her with little time before she had to take care of Ikki. She couldn’t cook, sure, but she could make sandwiches. And there was something that felt more natural about showering in the evening as well - it felt wonderful, actually.

She was just bringing her arms down from lathering her hair when something extraordinary happened - the water froze around her, encasing her in ice. Katara let out a startled shriek.

She was trapped! And naked! And cold! And where had the ice come from??]

Part the second (and every single other day):

[After her little adventure in the shower, Katara had discovered, much to her wonder and delight, that she could make water move when she moved her hands. She still hadn’t figured out how she’d turned it to ice that first time, but right now she was more interested in the beautiful fluidity of it than anything else.

Whenever she has a moment of free time, you can find her practicing with it, making it move over her arms or hover just above her hand or - wow, she can even fling it at things! This is so cool.

She decided that she was a water dancer, and it was a wonderful, wonderful thing. In the evenings, after helping clear up from dinner and making sure Ikki was tucked in, she wound up a small box that played music (Did you know that there are devices that make music?) she found in the shop with all the things. She took it outside, lifted the lid and practiced dancing to the music.

Feel free to run into her anywhere! Maybe as she runs errands about town or even that moment on the path by the river when she first discovers she can take water and make it smaller, shattering into hundreds of little raindrops that catch the sunlight, and laughs with delight.]
markofthebrave: (Just a Girl)
[So it's safe to say that this month has been more than a little crazy. But with nothing exploding in the past few days, she's finally had some time to take care of some basic etiquette. There is no postal system in Luceti, so Katara will be making some visits today. Namely, to all those who gave her a present who she doesn't live with, so we're looking at: Buffy, Jack, Trafalgar Law, Masaomi Kida, Nara Shikamaru, Harry Dresden, Vivi, Mia, Raine and anyone else I may have missed in my scan of the present table. Once she finds your living place, you will receive a handmade thank you card with pressed flowers from her garden inside. (Naturally, any of these deliveries may be handwaved, and if anyone in one of those apartment buildings/houses wants to wonder what she's doing there, feel free to say hello!)

But - hark! - sometime during her jaunt out and about town, Katara actually spots something in the clothing shop that catches her eye. A hat display! Right by the window! She heads inside (just for a moment or two, she swears) to start trying on what look to be several very silly hats. Feel free to catch her at this activity, but be warned! She may try and fit you with a hat as well.]
markofthebrave: (Gotta Be Some Compromise | Why Me?)
[Days 1-2]
[The experiment catches up with Katara slowly - first through teleportation, then through the advent of (thought bubbles)]

[Day 3]
Meet the bitty:

[She's been in Luceti for two years now, along with her much older brother Sokka. She's totally adapted and probably playing hide-and-seek. Warning: She's also still teleporting.]

[Days 4-6]
[More thought bubbles. More transportation. Katara is starting to get very tired and frustrated at this point due to lack of sleep and various emotional issues. She keeps popping up in the most inconvenient places! Sorry about that...]

[Days 7-8]
[Today, Katara woke up a bit different: she has been AU'd to another world, that of the Konoha ninja (complete with forehead protector!). She chalks waking up in a strange bedroom to the experiment that's been going on the past couple of days and ninja!vanishes into the dawn - she'll apologize later. She'll do her best to move back in to her regular apartment and keep to her regular schedule - a few classes at school (despite having told Raine she would not be in attendance that week - and depending on if school is in session) - practice in the forest, climbing on some trees; and making dinner on Floor 8 of Community Building 1, where she has claimed the sole empty apartment.

The next day, she decides to take a break from her regular training to practice an art more specific to kunoichi: Ikebana. At around six in the evening, Katara heads down to the flower shop. After gathering her materials, and dressing for the occasion, Katara heads out behind her apartment complex to make the best use of the natural light to form her arrangements.]
markofthebrave: (Hold Your Breath)
tl;dr: BACKDATED to last night when the moon was full and close, Katara walked down the river to the Southern Lake and skipped stones while brooding about her lovelife. )

[After a late night out, Katara slept in to nearly noon this Saturday... morningish. It felt good. She didn't have a shift in the Med Lab today, so today was a day for... errands. Study and maybe some time on the koto and running into town to make sure she had as much as she needed for dinner, but... she also had time to address the journal, if she wanted.]

Hey, Luceti - it's a lazy sort of Saturday. Now's a good time to share some famous stories from our worlds, don't you think? Does anyone know any famous adventures? ...or love stories?

[What is love? Baby don't hurt me...]

I know a pretty good one. It takes place in the Earth Kingdom, a long time ago, before there were earthbenders...

[She'll just leave that there, not wanting to spam in case of a lack of interest.

Of course, the chances are also good that one of her housemates or friends may decide to claim her attention for something else entirely. So if anyone wants to do that, or bump into her as she runs to the grocery store, or spy on her while she's playing music, this is a lazy Saturday, come as you are sort of deal.]
markofthebrave: (Dawn of a New Day)
[On April 9th, Katara had been told that she was an "error," and doomed to die by a boy with the face of the man she loved. As you can imagine, the rest of the day was not spent cheerfully; rather after wandering about for some time, Katara returned home to make dinner and then quietly excused herself to write some letters, and then bend into the early morning hours.

On April 10th, the sun rose on a Katara who was entirely herself, and the sudden onslaught of memories drove her to her knees. In the early hours of the morning, she wept beside the river, feeling inside out and torn apart and lost... eventually she returned to her room in order to sleep the sleep of the deeply exhausted.

She did not wake until April 11th. This was another slow day, where she read the letters her other self had written and decided not to give them out, ended up seeking some unlikely advice, and generally stuck to her schedule, feeling... strange.

But today? Today she woke up feeling a little more like herself. It was a Thursday, which meant meeting Nami for bo practice after school (which she... finally got back to attending, sorry Professor) and then made dinner. She may glance through the journal a bit more than normal; she may even contemplate attempting to contact someone, and... eventually, she does make two locked posts:]

[Written | Private to Robin]
Hey. I know you'll probably say you're fine, but I just wanted to ask how you were doing.

[Voice | Private to Wolfwood]
Do you have a minute?

[Later that evening, she'll be practicing by the river, under the light of a waning moon.]
markofthebrave: This was recently drawn for me, so I'd appreciate if you waited a bit before taking! (The Look of Hope)
[Somewhere in all the excitement of the past month, it... sort of didn't occur to her that she's now been in Luceti for two years. That's had some time to sink in now, along with the new announcement and - home. Actually getting to go home. Even if it's just for a day...

...but then it means that the Malnosso were lying to them, doesn't it. They do have the power to send them home. And all this time, they'd said it was random...]

[Filter to those who had been here when she arrived: Two years back or more.]

Hey. I think that I just... wanted to apologize. I know that when I got here two years ago, I wasn't very respectful about all the things everyone had tried to do in order to get out of here. It must have been so hard to hear that then, and to keep hearing it from every New Feather that we get when we know that we've tried everything we could.

But we have to keep trying. What they're doing, no matter what they say, no matter what they promise us, is wrong. We can't give up hope that we'll find a way out - we have to keep looking. There's a difference between waiting and giving up, and I know it's hard, but so many of you are still doing that, still trying to find a way out while making things as comfortable as you can for all the new people who are stuck here as we are, and I admire that so much.

So, thank you.

[/filter]

[And then, taking a deep breath, she'll continue:]

And hey, if anyone was using the sled tracks I made, I haven't had a chance to check on them since the ice storm. I'll probably be decommissioning them tomorrow and just turning it all into a giant snow hill, so if you go out there, please be careful, all right?

[Thursday is one of the days Katara goes to spar with Nami, so after making this announcement after school, she and Nami will meet up by the river to do battle with their staffs. Feel free to stop by and watch these two sexy ladies practicing, if you like.

If not, after dinner, Katara heads off someplace she very rarely is. The remembrance garden. This place has always made her uncomfortable... she's not sure it's right, but it's... something. Better than those things that reminded her of gravestones. And the perfect place to pour over her journal, flipping back until she finds an entry of Aang. It's been so long since she's seen him... she's all but forgotten what he sounds like. She feels almost bad about it, but... she misses him so much and yet... it's easier not to miss him.

And eventually, when her time in the remembrance garden is done, Katara will return to her house for an hour or two of bending practice in the back yard.]
markofthebrave: This was recently made for me, so I'd appreciate if you waited a bit before taking! (Wry | Soft | Hoping)
[Sneeze and you break it filter to CR at around 4 am this morning.]

I'm back. I'm fine. I hope everyone's okay. Good night.

[So then Katara wakes up much, much later and will be just puttering around the house for a while for those who are inclined to catch her in serious conversation. She sends notes to Trafalgar and to Gelda to let them know that although she's back she feels like she needs to take a few days off... she's still very tired, and as of yet not feeling like being around people.

All that changes, however, on Wednesday. She needs to get out of the house, she needs to do something life-affirming and fun... and isn't it fortunate that she's been working on building several insane monstrous intense snow tracks for people to go sledding on? She decides to go check on them and to bring her journal with them.

Finding that their structural integrity hasn't been too damaged without constant maintenance and that the cold weather still holds... she decides that today is the day to show them off.]

Hey, everyone - I've been working on something the past few weeks and if you like sledding then... [She trails off and flips the journal over so that the journal feed will reveal three sledding tracks. She's made good use of all the snow in the past month or so, the clearing is very nearly bare of it - instead, there is the very large one, made completely of tunnels and requiring snow-cut stairs to ascend and once dared will necessitate a few on-the-walls themselves turns, there is the slightly less large one that seems to be composed mostly of sheer drops, and there is the normal-sized one that is essentially one long spiral down to ground level.] then grab your sleds. Don't worry, I've had a few people test them and they've held up just fine! It's south of the barracks, by the river.

[OOC: If anyone wants to come sledding, please do! Threadjacks of all sorts are welcome!

Also, if I could get those who attend the school, work in the clinics, or attend combat medicine lessons to give this a quick glance and offer input, that would be awesome! \o/!]
markofthebrave: This was recently drawn for me, so I'd appreciate if you waited a bit before taking! (The Look of Hope)
[Okay, so waking up today was weird. She thought it was Saturday, but by the state of the house and where things were... it was actually Monday. Sokka was back - woke up in his own bed, and all, but when Katara went to check on Toph to see if she remembered what happened...

Her room was bare. There was nothing left. Toph was gone.

After stumbling to the wall and leaning on it a long moment to get herself together - is it going to hurt like this every time? - it was time to tell the household.

That accomplished, one of them had to let the town know... and Katara volunteered. She opened up her journal to find a mission summons from the Malnosso. She stared at it a long moment - now? When her housemates need her most they're calling for her now? She shut the journal. She needed a moment to process.

Eventually, she'll open up the journal again. Her voice is a little strained, but steady.]

I'm sorry I don't know any other way to say this but... Manliness Classes are going to have to be canceled again. Toph's gone home.

And... [hhhng, announcing this to the village is so weird, but...] Sokka's back. [There, that's better. Starting with him gives her someplace to stand on.] But I'll be leaving on a mission tomorrow, so... I'll see you all in a week or so.

[So after making this post mid-morning, Katara sets about doing what she needs to do. Sirry Crags, huh? She knows how to handle high altitudes and fighting in snow. She'll just... pop into the Item Shop to double check for a few things, and then hopefully bump into someone willing to help her carry groceries home. It looks like she's going to need to do a week's worth of cooking today.]
