['sup, Luceti. Hope you're not the curious type of person, because if you are the filter on this is so thin you could sneeze and break it. Someone is singing, this early afternoon, singing a lullaby softly and into their journal. The feed will cut off before the crying starts.]

Little child, be not afraid...

[Later in the afternoon, there is an unfamiliar woman with a familiar set of blue-toned wings and waterskin at the south-most bridge. There's only so much hiding in one's room that can be done when the memories are thick and the silence is very, very loud.]

What? It's true!

[Manly dad shrug.]

Say, can you still waterbend like this?

[Action]

[identity profile] amotherlost.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Probably. I don't feel any different.

[Does this mean their mother was ALWAYS A WATERBENDER? Or maybe that's just how the experiment worked. Having no powers himself, beyond filial magic, he had no idea.]

...oh, well good. I'm glad you're taking all of this so well.

How am I supposed to take it? Would Mom want me to let the Malnosso take her memory and turn it into something that would only hurt me more? That's not why she - that's the last thing she would have wanted.

[Speeding up as she walks a little bit.]

That's not what I-

[He quickens his pace to catch up with her, so he can catch her by the shoulder. It works with parents too.]

I meant, it was nice to see her smile. I mean, it's not her, but... [In a way, it's close enough. It's realer than a picture or someone else's memory.]

[Oh, that's... oh.]

...then I'm glad there's still enough around to smile about.

Well, yeah. But I've got a million jokes, so you don't have to worry about that anyway.

[Not what she meant, he knows. But that's the punchline.]

Yeah, but how many of them are actually funny?

[Action]

[identity profile] afathertorn.livejournal.com 2011-02-01 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
All of them! Some people just have a poorly developed sense of humor.

[But as they're walking, he sobers up a bit from joking around. He stops as he stares up at their home, now not so far after their walk. Although he was smiling moments ago, he goes quiet for now. He really did think of it as home, even with that stupid rock with his face on it in the front yard. Seeing his mother wasn't the hardest part. Not for him anyway. It was his dad, the person whose body he was in, that was really missing from his life in Luceti. There were other people he missed, there was no doubt about that. But ultimately he had his sister, he had his girl, but he didn't have his dad.

On the other hand, this home had electric heating and it was cold outside. Besides, he knew his mild unhappiness was nothing compared to what it must be like Katara. Especially now that he knew about their mother's sacrifice. So he had to keep that brave face for her sake.]

... we should go inside before people start getting ideas.

[She sees him go quiet and isn't quite sure what brought it on - but a quiet Sokka was an upset Sokka, so she's willing to let some of that pass.]

Because going inside won't give them any ideas at all.

[Come on. Be distracted by the weird and wrongness.]

[He stares at her for a second as what she says sinks in. Ah... yeah, that would be kind of weird, huh? He lets out a small 'heh'.]

Fair enough. So what do you suggest?

[Action]

[identity profile] amotherlost.livejournal.com 2011-02-02 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Eyeroll.]

Going inside. [Duh.] It's not like there's anyone around watching.

[Action]

[identity profile] afathertorn.livejournal.com 2011-02-02 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
... oh right. Yeah.

[Whoops. He'll just head off there first, scratching his neck awkwardly.]

[Shaking her head, Katara follows on after.]

[Once Sokka steps inside, it's an empty home. Except for Momo. The lemur regards Sokka with disinterest. Momo didn't mind Hakoda so much, but he'd wondered where Sokka had run off to the past week. But as for Kya...?]

[Action]

[identity profile] afathertorn.livejournal.com 2011-02-05 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Oh come on, Momo! [Sokka makes a sudden leap for the lemur. Which while normal for Sokka, looks rather ridiculous when Hakoda is doing it. Once he has the lemur by the tail.]

This is dad! He used to give you treats on the Fire Nation ship!

Momo, calm down. Everything's okay.

Yeah, seriously. Me? Sokka. Her? Katara.

[Clearly lemurs understand people. And technically in Luceti, he really should...]
