[Action, Accidental Voice] .003

[After having to push herself to heal and volunteering to help build the barrier with her bending, Katara is tired of not knowing for sure just how strong her bending is in this place. So sometime after the sun has gone down and the moon has risen high, she is going to quietly leave the Avatar house and travel to one of the closer lakes. She's not being overly sneaky about it, just quiet enough to be 'considerate,' if one of her housemates catches her in the act.

She'll be bringing her journal with her in case someone needs her or she needs to get a hold of someone quickly. She's still not exactly sure how this journal system works, so the chances are good that it will open on its own, and if it does all that will be heard is the sound of water moving and falling ice.

While she's there, she'll also be trying to contact the water spirit that she read about in the guide.

Pausing for a second, she stares at the half-moon] I wonder...

[Shaking herself, Katara resumes her forms.]

[Fantastic. Just the confirmation she needed to know that she was alone with one of the big three bad guys. Katara might be brave but she's not stupid, and she is going to try to get out of this without a fight.]

Really? That's too bad. It's so pretty on clear nights like this. [Tiny, strained smile.] Well, it was nice meeting you!

[Have a wave and a backing away Katara.]

[Aku slips into his dragon form, his longer body now effectively cutting her off.]

Foolish girl, when did I, the all powerful Aku, say you could leave?

[OK, creepy. And not good. The small amount of water she's been rotating instinctively goes faster. She shifts into a fighting stance and makes what is probably her last attempt to bluff before her temper snaps.]

We-well. When did you say did you say I could come?

Indeed. Perhaps you should be punished for trespassing. [He begins to rise up looking like he might strike.]

Or perhaps you should drop your pitiful water and beg the almighty Aku's forgiveness.

[...right. 'cause that's gonna happen in this century.]

Are you really all mighty?

[One pair of eye lasers later, there's some pretty heavy steam rising from the lake.]

[Katara is impressed! And happy! Steam is only good for her and she's really glad he didn't point those eye-beams at her.]

Wow! That's amazing! I knew someone who could do something like that from a third eye, but you just need two. What else can you do?

The next demonstration will be performed on you, foolish girl. Explain to the great Aku why you should be spared.

I don't know why I should. The 'great' Aku hasn't shown me yet why he's so great. So you do the eye lazer trick with two eyes instead of three and get all shifty -- you're still stuck in here like the rest of us, aren't you?

[It should be noted, however, that Katara is tense and ready to spring. Also, that mist? Hasn't gone away.]

[... Mortals. Why do they always have to deliver speeches like that in the face of such odds? He's so glad that after thousands of years oppressing the world, humanity had that particular trait eradicated.]

Very well, foolish girl. You have tested the great Aku's patience for the last time! [He'll breathe a jet of flame in your direction, flying over you, and contracting his form inwards as he shifts into something else.]

[Oh yay. Fire. Katara uses the water she's been bending to propell her up and over his serpant's coil - she's sticking close to Aku's body but she feels the heat from that flame still in the air.

As soon as she's over, she's grabbing that mist and using it to conceal - as much as she can - that she's headed towards a giant snow bank. Have some ice spears from the side to distract you. She knows she's not going to be able to keep this up very long, so her top priority is to get away.]

[When Aku reforms, his shape will have shifted to a massive black ball with his usual face, but attached to it are four massive spider-like legs to keep him propelled in the air. Surprising as her maneuver might have been, he quickly figures out where she went thanks to those ice spikes that impact him and are absorbed into his skin.

He repositions his head toward her positions and begins advancing on her with those massive legs. Another jet of flame spews from his mouth once he gets himself properly coordinated.]

[So ice attacks are no good when they're sharp and pointy. Also: EW. And yikes! Flame!

Katara pulls from the nearby snow to intercept the burst of fire and breathes out, coating the ground he's standing on (plenty moist from all the splashing around she's done) with ice.

If she can, her next move is to run to the river.]

[The ice seems to cause Aku to slip at first, the two front legs buckling in front of him as he tumbles forward. But he manages to use this to his advantage, sucking in four legs and reducing himself into one giant ball that continues to roll after her, even though his face seems to stay in one position as he follows.]

[He is really, really gross. And not stopping. In fact, he's speeding up.

But that's OK, because she's reached the river and is running on it towards the other side -- have a wave of ice blocking your access to the other side of the bank as Katara reverses direction again and scrambles around for a place to hide.

That snow bank over there looks good.]

[Aku just blasts through that wave of ice like cardboard... and sinks to the bottom of the river.

Victory?]

[Katara knows she's not that lucky.

But hiding seems to be working out okay so far, so she is just going to borrow back into the snow, further towards the lake. If she could, she'd use the river to run straight into the village, but she can't just lead an angry monster back into a sleeping town.

Inspiration strikes, and from her hiding place she is going to send out two separate ice sleds that go barreling off in different directions, creating a trail while she waits.]

[She is so not that lucky. In fact, Katara gets to write home about something no one else previously knew Aku could do.

Which she'll find out when five centipede-shaped Akus emerge from the river, each one about the size of a small car. They don't immediately detect her, so they go proceeding in five different directions, spewing flames and melting the snow and ice around them.]

[OK. Now she's scared.

She can't stay hiding - he'll find her. And she can't take all five of those reallyreallygross things. Heck, after practicing for most of the night and doing what bending she has, she's not sure she can take one. This guy is seriously bad news, and she'd never wanted to run so much in her life.

Breathe. Move. Remaining burrowed in snow, Katara edges slowly back towards the lake.]

[They continue on this path for a few minutes. Eventually they shift into smaller humanoid forms, marching back to the point where they came out of the river at. They do not seem amused, as they continue to glare about them.

Eventually they mishmash into one another and Aku returns to his original, larger form. He carefully inspects around him, trying to find movement.]

[At the brink of the lake, Katara is going to freeze. She is breathing in soft, controlled movements and completely covered. Everything inside her just wants to burst out and challenge him head on, get it over with -- but she waits, perfectly still, and prays that if there are any good spirits in this horrible place they'll look on her with favor.]

[After glaring in every direction, missing her completely when his eyes settle in her direction, a frustrated Aku transforms into several smaller bat like creatures and take off into the forest, intending to find her.

Fortunately, they won't.]

[Katara is not going to take any chances. She is going to count to one hundred. And then, when nothing happens, she slips into the water behind her. Following up on a theory, she creates an air bubble with the water and then uses all her nervous energy to propel her underwater until she reaches town.]
