[Even Katara can only deny the effects of the dreams so long. It wasn't so bad at first when they were just vivid and of a different Luceti... but this other world, with these strange people she feels connected to, and the strange consistency of them, as if they were actually telling a story...

...and she knows the dreams have been effecting her dad too. And that it hasn't been good. So... she's going to take today to do maybe what she should have done from the start.]

Don't take this the wrong way, but I had a dream about us, and we were fighting. You broke my rib, but it wasn't a bad thing and I can't stop thinking about--

[Katara abruptly shoves away from her journal, scribbling through her filters madly. Checking with Sokka and Zuko would be enough. She didn't want to go and get people upset or excited about something that may or may not be true. She hesitates for a long moment at the doorway to her father's room, contemplating knocking and asking him-

What have you been dreaming about, Dad? They haven't stopped. Do you think they mean something?

-but eventually she just writes a note that she's going to spend some time practicing, picks up her yari, and heads into the forest. She's almost hoping to see one of the beasties everyone's been talking about. She could do with a good fight against something she can actually touch.]

Right... dreams.

[Okay... he's making a list.

-White haired girl - not my grandma, turning into the moon. Apparently was in love with her.
-Some hairy guy who was our dad? Very funny. Prison record??
-Weird bald kid with arrow tattoos. Kind of annoying.
-Zuko with a weird ponytail. Kept attacking us.
-Toph hanging out with me and Suki before we were married. Never saw Fenimore.
-Six legged monster thing. Sucked me into its mouth once.
-A very, very confusing and badly acted play.
-Lots of guys shooting fire at us. An enemy in a war?
-Lots of airships and explosions. Pretty cool.
-Things. [A few pen taps here.] Here in the valley. Similar but different?
-Food that eats people.

... yeah, that should cover it, right? He hasn't been able to sort out how he feels about the dreams that take place in the village. They're similar to things he remembers, yet they're so different.]

I dreamed of fire, and ice... growing up in tents and all these funny looking animals, and I dreamed of snow, so much snow...
I dreamed of sledding on penguins and laughing with someone kid I didn't recognize, and he was very important. He was bald, with gray eyes and arrow tattoos...
I dreamed of Zuko, and he was our enemy, and we fought in caves of crystal like we were trying to kill each other, except it wasn't about me, it was about the boy with the arrow tattoos. And there was a girl there who looked like Zuko, but she fought with blue fire.
I dreamed that were flying on the saddle of some great big Thing with six legs - almost as big as a house.
I dreamed of learning to fight with my water more effectively than any weapon, and of an old man with white hair. And there was a girl with white hair too, and she was very important and she... turned into the moon?
I dreamed of Toph, fighting a bunch of older men and winning, and there was a belt she held above her head...
...and tunnels. There were tunnels with crystal on top and I was there with he tattooed boy and we were separated...
There was an old woman, and a full moon, and we were being jerked around like puppets on a string, and she was laughing...
I dreamed that being here was wrong. That we were talking, outside the house, and trying to get back to the place with the snow.]

Swap?

Right. [He hands his over and take hers, then studies it a bit. He is... well, a little surprised that so many of these are familiar. He had been vaguely under the idea that the dreams were different for each person.]

... these sounds a lot like my own.

Yeah... [That's why she had them write it down. So they could believe it if they were the same...]

I don't know what this means. Why would we be having dreams that were so close? Even if it's a Shift...

[It is... well, concerning. Because some of those dreams pack a lot of emotions. But that's just how dreams work, right?]

Maybe that's just how the Shift works.

But that doesn't make any sense. Why are we the only ones sharing our dreams? Everyone else's seem different.

[Why is our dad different, Sokka?]

Well... [The dreams might not mean anything. But.]

Suki, Toph, and Zuko was in our dreams, right? At least, I remember Suki in mine. So if they have the same kind of dreams, maybe it does mean something. [Actually... this is kind of consistent with the last Shift, wasn't it?]

I'm going to see Zuko later tonight...

[...even if the dreams say we're enemies...]

I can ask Suki and Toph when I get home.

[Well... he may as well voice his thought.] Kind of weird all five of us woke up in the same house a week ago? I mean, just the five of us. [No Fenimore. No Law.]

Well, yeah, but... everyone woke up in different places.

[They can take turns being the doubter here. Katara does not want the dreams to be anything other than some strange Shift.

Although... that boy with the tattoos...]

I'm just saying it's a weird coincidence. This stuff is probably going to blow over, like all Shifts do.

[Because he doesn't want it to be true either. Because for as interesting as those dreams were, his little seven year old girl wasn't there.]

...Sokka.

... Fen's not in those dreams. Neither is dad.

[A nod.

She was afraid of that.]

Zoro isn't in any of my dreams either.

Well that settles it. [He stands up.] We know how much they mean to us. So that means the dreams? Just a weird Shift. Or something in the food. A week from now we'll be wondering why we even made a big deal out of it.

[She stands too... retrieving her list and frowning down at the pair.

The similarities are...]

[He sets a hand on her shoulder, to get her to turn towards him.]

Hey. It's just a dream, okay? Try not to worry about it too much.

[She hesitates before she looks up at him.

If they're Shifts then they're not just dreams.

But... what else could they be?]

Yeah. I'm sure you're right.

[Satisfied with that, he puts on some bravado.]

Of course I'm right. I'm always right! Hey, if you want, you can have dinner at our place.

You're just saying that because you want me to cook for you.

You make that sound like it's a bad thing.

[She shakes her head.] Some other time soon, okay? I want to have dinner with Dad tonight.

[Because Katara? Stubborn as hell. She doesn't care what the dreams say - he's her dad.]

Fair enough. Tell him I said hi, okay?

[And... maybe he should think about shaving less.]

Can do. [A quick smile.] My love to the kids, OK?

[He nods at that.]

Later, Katara. [Though concerned still, he's just going to use his usual coping mechanism for Shifts - not think too much about it. Besides, he's got a family to provide for. He can't spend all his time worried about that.]
