[Should you be passing by the bridge between the clinic and the Item Shop on this fine, finally-a-break-from-the-heat afternoon, you will notice that there has been a certain change in the landscape. A large wall, seemingly made out of one solid chunk of earth has appeared by the riverbank and painted white. At varying points in the day there may also be some spheres, pyramids, inverted pyramids appearing beside the wall... and that white wall is on its way to becoming multicolored.

There by the wall is a large sheet and on it rest pretty much every container of water-soluble paint found in the Item Shop, mainly strong primary colors. There are balloons and small buckets and bowls, and just about everything you could want in order to throw paint at a white wall.

Random passerby, what do you do? Continue on your way and hope not to get splashed with mud, water, or paint? Stop to wonder at this strange work of 'art?' Or if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, there does seem to be more than enough paint...]

Well~ Matching with Katara? [He poses a little, pulling at the edges of his pink hoodie]

I can't say I would be opposed.

Good. [She dips her hand in the paint in the pot she's holding at flicks it at him. It falls woefully short of reaching.

Shrugging, she tilts her head towards the sheet of paint.]

Grab some paint.

No worries! I'm experiencing the same thing @_@

Right. [Ah, is it demonstration time? Katara's taken her waterskin off for the paint-throwing, but it's laying on the sheet over there... and while she can bend this paint, she'd rather not confuse the matter. She reaches out from where she's standing to the waterskin and calls a small amount of water, and circles it over her outstretched hand.]

She can do with earth what I can do with water. I'm a waterbender.

[He nods, and then makes his way over here. Grabbing paint, huh? he's not sure if he's supposed to take a fistful or a container, so he just dips his hand in one of the yellows]

[And Katara's own hands go SPLAT against the wet paint.]

So how are you feeling?

[Temari stops mid-motion, her hand resting lightly in a patch of brilliant blue paint. Then she shrugs and keeps swirling that paint around in broad motions.]

All right.

[Still can't quite get her chakra up to snuff and do anything, but not hurting. Just feeling a little... empty.]

[Blink. Blink. Staring at that little bit of water in her grasp. Now that he has a clear view of how it's done, it looks much simpler to understand.] So you basically 'bend' an element to your will. Is that what I'm getting here?

All that from the earth? [Okay, going to be very careful which topics come up around Toph.... In the meantime, she'll be refreshing the paint on her hands and swinging them to splatter across the wall.]

Yup. You'd be surprised how sharp your other senses get when one of them isn't there.

[This is her theory, anyway. While Fenimore paints, Toph continues to bend smaller shapes into the ground at her feet--a miniature grove of trees, a turtle duck, Appa...]

I think this is a little more of a special case than most.

[She's kind of stopped painting by this point and instead staring at the shapes. They're really impressive.]

Well, yeah. I am the best earthbender in the whole world, after all.

[She could do the whole city of Ba Sing Se, too, but she doesn't want to create a huge hole in the middle of Katara's paint shindig. Some other time.]

Basically. [With a shrug, but he may notice that as she sends the water back, it is in conjunction with her hand movements.]

[Katara. Grins.] Way to jump right in on it.

[And she places her hands on some still-wet blue and white paint, tracing random patterns in it.]

Pick a color! We've got sponges and pots and things if you want to use something beside your hands.

We figured we might as well have fun with it.

Mmm. [Yup. She got that.]

They're not supposed to last for more than a few weeks.

[Projectiles + instincts + waterbased paint = Katara whirling and lashing out with some of the paint on the wall. It slices the balloon in half, resulting in a splatter which likely hits both of them.]

[Oh... Well. He flicks some of it at the wall, but then he just starts to smear it on there. Let's see what we can make this look like, if anything. A smile plays out on his face too]

[... fine. He gets a bucket of blue paint. Hmmm. He's just going to stare, deciding how he wants to use it first.]

[Temari doesn't stop idly moving the paint around as she answers.]

Yeah, I know. I'm fine, really. It just doesn't feel quite right.

[Katara glances at him, standing there blissfully clean and concentrating and has a moment of temptation.

Hmm.

Hmm.

But no! She can resist this.

Probably.]

[And Katara stands there watching him, waiting impatiently for him to do something. She's excited, OK?

And of limited patience.]

[Katara shudders.] I can imagine. It's bad enough being at half-strength. But when I had to go into the tunnels it was like losing a sense.

[Oh look! She went from making it a Big Deal to turning it into casual common ground.]

It's not so bad, I guess. Gives me an excuse not to spar or practice.
