[Today, after the typical Saturday late morning house-cleaning and laundry doing, Katara heads into town. She's got grocery shopping to do, true, but she has another more specific destination in mind: The Flower Shop. You guys carry seeds for trees, right?

Thus armed, she will head back home, ~~steal~~ borrow one of Sokka's canoes, and head up to the nearest lake. Once there, she intends to use Faren to plant and strengthen the tree seeds in order to replace the tree she dessicated in her last spar with Shikamaru. She may even give into the urge to jump into the lake and go for a swim.]

[Accidental video:]

[In fact, regardless of whether or not there's company there for her to plant the tree or go swimming, the urge to just jump into the lake is one she is going to give into. The fact that it is an urge, though, prompts her to be less than careful as she strips off her waterskin, belt, and pouch which holds her journal, causing it to jostle opened as it lands on the ground. Fortunately, the fates are kinder to her than they could have been and the video function is not pointing directly at her. Just enough, though, to see her back as she shimmies out of her overtunic before Katara steps out of the camera completely. There will shortly be the sound of a loud SPLASH. And then the video just records the sky and perhaps a loud "EEP." That water is cold. This will probably be a very short swim.

Later, at home and over a cup of tea, she sets up a voice message.]

[Private: to Robin]

Hey, the experiment's over. When do you want to come over for dinner?

[If you hoped she would forget, masked man, your hopes were in vain!

Nah, we just had really different trees. From what I've heard, my world is really different from others.

Oak, huh? It's got a nice smell.

[Eyebrow.] Well, I wouldn't know about that... [She's holding the sapling and it just smells like... wood and leaves.]

[She shakes it off and smiles.]

I'm Katara. What's your name?

I've got a strong sense of smell, so I guess that's why I smell it.

[He grins back.] 'm Natsu!

[That grin reminds her disturbingly of a friend of hers. But she can't help returning it.]

It's nice to meet you, Natsu. Did you just get here?

Yeah, a few days ago. I guess you've been here a while?

[Wryly:] A lot longer than I thought I'd be. Are you getting the lay of the land okay?

I think a lot of people here have.

So far, I guess. I've got a friend here to help me out, but it's still kinda hard to get used to.

[She nods with a small smile.]

It's good to have friends here. Nothing really makes it okay, but having friends here makes it better.

I'd be fine with being here if we weren't kidnapped. But hell, I can meet new friends here, too.

[She smiles a little wryly.]

That's a good way of looking at it, Natsu.

[He has been picking up on your smiles, he hopes you know.]

Oi, you doin' okay? You seem kinda down.

[Blink.]

Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just not as optimistic about the up sides of this place as I used to be. It gets a lot harder the longer you're here. But if you're lucky, maybe you won't be here too long. What's the name of your friend here?

I hope I'm not. I've got a lot of stuff to do back home.

Erza Scarlet. You know her?

[Katara knows that feeling. But she decides to let that go.]

Erza! Yes, we met a long time ago. She's very nice.

Ain't she? She's pretty scary when's she mad, but she's a great mage, too!

Well, I've never really seen her mad... or when she fights. Although she did try and explain somethings about magic to me when I first got here.

[She shrugs.]

We don't have it in my world, not the way so many places here do.

Ah, she did? Bet it was like a lecture, huh?

Ya don't? Doesn't seem many places do.

No, she was just nice enough to answer some questions. But it sounds like the magic on your world is different even compared to the kinds of magic that's here.

Well, I only know one other world's magic, so I don't really know about the different kinds. Do you remember 'em?

[Katara shakes her head a little sadly.] No, that was a long time ago. Besides, I decided against trying to learn it, and Kefka was sent home, so it just didn't stick with me.

Ah, that's okay. I'll probably find out myself, anyway.

Kefka?

He was a villain who used magic here, a while ago. That's why I wanted to learn about it, so I'd have a better understanding of how to fight him.

There's even bad guys here, huh?

Heh, smart move!

There are a lot less than there used to be. [She brushes off the compliment with a smile and a shrug.] But you can never tell who'll show up during New Feather season.
