[These decorations have been up for a few days now, and while at first Katara thought they were pretty they have now succeeded in making her grumpy. Yes. Very grumpy. Grumpy enough to make a post about it, in fact.]

How do they expect us to sleep with all these lights in our window? I've put a double curtain over it, and the light is still keeping me awake. Does anyone have any ideas?

[You might catch some muttering about: "Moving to sleep down in the basement" or "It's not too cold to camp out in the forest" before the journal shuts. She'll get back to it in a little bit, she just needs to finish making the grocery list.

Once she finishes with any replies that she may receive, Katara heads into town. The lights really are pretty. And so are the wreaths and the snowmen and the... unfamiliar sprigs of green over the doorway to the grocery store really kind of... isn't. Why is that even there? Katara pauses underneath it to examine it more closely...]

[And then Masaomi sliiiides up next to her.

Okay no more context. Masaomi was in the center of town, hanging out and waiting for people to hit on, lurking around there... and he saw Katara walking to the grocery. Or well, he saw her belatedly, by the time he starts to go over she's taken note of the mistletoe. so, he smirks and slides up next to her]

Ka~tara.

[Katara sees him coming up out of the corner of her eye and so half-turns to greet him by the time he comes up next to him. Her grumpiness has someone dissipated due to the walk, so she even has a smile for him.]

Hey, Masaomi.

[As Katara's coming in and staring at the mistletoe, Ceodore's approaching the door with a small sack of groceries himself. Most of which is junk food and the few things he was actually supposed to bring home. He nods politely to her and glances up at the sprig.]

Lady Katara! Good to see you!

[He's been told what that naughty plant is supposed to be for but isn't about to go making her uncomfortable.]

[Oh dear. Well, fortunately, Katara steps back a half step to make room for him as he comes towards the door.

...unfortunately, she's not completely clear of the sprig's circle of influence. She blinks a bit when she sees him, stifling a strange sort of... feeling.]

Hello, Ceodore! It's been a while, but I thought I told you to just call me Katara.

I never even thought that some people might have trouble sleeping with them around. They're so much a part of this season for me that I'm not sure that I could sleep without them.

[Oh yey, Alexis! And double yey, for someone who can maybe clear this up.]

Why are they part of the season?

[And Ceodore's not free of the sprig's influence either and it's rather alarming how open to suggestion he is. He blinks and shakes his head to clear it then grins sheepishly.]

Sorry about that. I'll remember next time.

... You know, I never really looked it up. I just always took it for granted that colored lights were part of Christmas decorations. Back home, it's probably one of our biggest holidays. We spend a good month or so putting up decorations, celebrating, buying gifts for people, and generally just basking in the spirit of things.

[Right. So she'll just be. Stepping that half-step closer to him, then. Which, of course, brings them more directly under the plant.]

That's okay. How have you been?

Oh, I remember learning about Christmas!

...but you'd think the lights would have an off switch.

I can see where that would be nice.

Sleep masks. They're pretty much required for sleeping in Tokyo or New York City.

Hm. Ask someone with skill in Hyt's magic, to dim the lights? I've volunteer, but I haven't yet learned such.

...is this part of the same tradition that made you make that omelet?

"Sleep masks?" [This is an unfamiliar term to Katara. She does, at least, recognize the name of those Earth cities.] What are they?

[An almost desperate sort of hope:] Do you think that would work?

Omelet? [It takes a moment before the memory clicks, and then Alexis laughs.] No, that was one of my dad's infamous traditions.

Oh. [A wry smirk.] I just thought the lights and the omelets might be more of the same.

[Since. You know. They're both horrible.]

[She chuckles.] The lights cannot be as bad as that omelet.

I haven't gotten a full night's sleep in days.

I'm sorry. There's something called a 'blackout curtain' that you might be able to find in the item shop.

It's worth finding out! I think it stands a good chance, at least.

[She perks right up at that.]

A blackout curtain? Does that do what it sounds like?

It's supposed to. Dad used one during some research binge or another and he never complained.
