[So then Katara wakes up much, much later and will be just puttering around the house for a while for those who are inclined to catch her in serious conversation. She sends notes to Trafalgar and to Gelda to let them know that although she's back she feels like she needs to take a few days off... she's still very tired, and as of yet not feeling like being around people.

All that changes, however, on Wednesday. She needs to get out of the house, she needs to do something life-affirming and fun... and isn't it fortunate that she's been working on building several insane monstrous intense snow tracks for people to go sledding on? She decides to go check on them and to bring her journal with them.

Finding that their structural integrity hasn't been too damaged without constant maintenance and that the cold weather still holds... she decides that today is the day to show them off.]

Hey, everyone - I've been working on something the past few weeks and if you like sledding then... [She trails off and flips the journal over so that the journal feed will reveal three sledding tracks. She's made good use of all the snow in the past month or so, the clearing is very nearly bare of it - instead, there is the very large one, made completely of tunnels and requiring snow-cut stairs to ascend and once dared will necessitate a few on-the-walls themselves turns, there is the slightly less large one that seems to be composed mostly of sheer drops, and there is the normal-sized one that is essentially one long spiral down to ground level.] then grab your sleds. Don't worry, I've had a few people test them and they've held up just fine! It's south of the barracks, by the river.

[OOC: If anyone wants to come sledding, please do! Threadjacks of all sorts are welcome!

Also, if I could get those who attend the school, work in the clinics, or attend combat medicine lessons to give this a quick glance and offer input, that would be awesome! \o/!]

"...Very little snow, where I grew up. And I guess I never...managed to. Here. I skate, instead."

"Oh, well." She guesses that's reasonable. "Then you'd better start lying down, instead of standing up. It's really easy, gravity does all the work."

Katara moves to fetch one of the leftover sleds. She. Kind of just uses hard water. Nothing like practicing and having fun at the same time, and she leaves it there to glimmer on top of the snow. It must look odd, not quite like ice, not quite like water.

"Which one would you like to start with?" Katara is thinking... maybe not the one with the tunnels. That's the one she designed so that you have to ride on the walls, and that might be a bit much for a first time.

Skeptical. She sorta liked a challenge, in the end. "Fine. Just one lying down. Then I'll try the standing...how about the run with all the spirals?"

She followed Katara over to the sled. Huh. The Slayer nudged it with her toe. "Should've brought Jack. He would've gotten a kick out of all this."

"Well, there's an advantage to lying down too." Besides, you know, the obvious safety issues. "You can get more momentum. I just like going standing up because it's good practice - but if you ask Zuko, bending while sledding is a 'cheat.'"

And then she glances over at Buffy. "And you could have brought him - or you can always come back. I'm going to leave them up until I think it gets too warm for them to be safe."

...has she mentioned how proud she is of them yet, by the way? Because she's practically glowing about it, in a very subdued fashion.

"...Maybe we'll come back.

How long'd they take you?"

Shrug. "A few weeks. I started after the blizzard on the big one," a nod towards the one with tunnels. "But fortunately it's been snowing enough that I could keep going."

"During that big draft, you mean?"

[markofthebrave]

Katara is unfamiliar with the use of the word "draft" in this context. "I sometime mid-December?"

"...Right. Thought so. I wasn't in town for that blizzard."

Oh. The draft. Katara winces. "Oh, I'm sorry. I should have remembered that happened at the same time. Things have been... there's been a lot going on."

That had been right after she'd let Masaomi kiss her. And then everything had started becoming even more complicated.

"It's been...over-the-top busy these last few months. That's for both sure and certain. Maybe," she glanced back at the hills. "Maybe things'll calm down, now. Hopefully. I dunno how much more blending my heart can take."

Katara abruptly looks down. "As much as it needs to. Right?"

Because they can't let this place win.

"...And then some."

Solidarity.

[markofthebrave]

"So until then..." There's a spare sled by the tree, and Katara hands it to Buffy. "Want to try sledding?"

[herotypical]

She held the sled close. Liking its solidity.

"It's not gonna...change. While I'm on it. Is it? The slope?"

[markofthebrave]

"Hmm? Oh! No. I built them to be solid."

Like a house in the South Pole should be solid.
