[Sneeze and you break it filter to CR at around 4 am this morning.]

[So then Katara wakes up much, much later and will be just puttering around the house for a while for those who are inclined to catch her in serious conversation. She sends notes to Trafalgar and to Gelda to let them know that although she's back she feels like she needs to take a few days off... she's still very tired, and as of yet not feeling like being around people.

All that changes, however, on Wednesday. She needs to get out of the house, she needs to do something life-affirming and fun... and isn't it fortunate that she's been working on building several ~~insane~~ ~~monstrous~~ intense snow tracks for people to go sledding on? She decides to go check on them and to bring her journal with them.

Finding that their structural integrity hasn't been too damaged without constant maintenance and that the cold weather still holds... she decides that today is the day to show them off.]

Hey, everyone - I've been working on something the past few weeks and if you like sledding then... [She trails off and flips the journal over so that the journal feed will reveal three sledding tracks. She's made good use of all the snow in the past month or so, the clearing is very nearly bare of it - instead, there is the very large one, made completely of tunnels and requiring snow-cut stairs to ascend and once dared will necessitate a few on-the-walls themselves turns, there is the slightly less large one that seems to be composed mostly of sheer drops, and there is the normal-sized one that is essentially one long spiral down to ground level.] then grab your sleds. Don't worry, I've had a few people test them and they've held up just fine! It's south of the barracks, by the river.

[OOC: If anyone wants to come sledding, please do! Threadjacks of all sorts are welcome!

Also, if I could get those who attend the school, work in the clinics, or attend combat medicine lessons to give this a quick glance and offer input, that would be awesome! \o/!]

He wasn't exactly the nicest guy I've ever worked with... [Light. Shrug. You're going to have to give a bit more than that.]

But he didn't go out of his way to bother me.

That's good. [He really is relieved to hear that. And don't worry, details are coming eventually. He just wants to get his questions out of the way first.]

What?

It's this rope thing. Tied around the waist with a bow in the back? [Hence the 'butt' part. It is an apt description, okay.] It happens to be purple.

[SHE'D KNOW IF SHE SAW IT. Though given her response, that's probably a no.]

No, he wasn't wearing anything like that. [She looks mildly disturbed at the thought.] I didn't know that was a fashion in your world.

I've only seen some select individuals from Oto wear them... the troublesome sort. [And here his expression shifts back to something serious again. Any ninja is dangerous, but it's clear he was thinking of more than that.] That's why I asked.

I didn't let him know that I recognized his forehead protector for what it was, or say anything about ninja to him.

That was probably a smart move, just to play things safe. [He wasn't worried about her saying anything though - he trusts her. She's oblivious to some things, but he gives her more credit than that. It's deserved.]

They're a mysterious bunch back home, you see. [He finds a napkin on the table and pulls it over to him, smoothing the paper out. It should work.] They've caused my village a lot of problems, but we haven't heard a thing about them for a while.

What can you tell me about it?

[He's drawing symbols on the napkin now, and glances up at her briefly before going back to that.]

For starters, it's not a village in the way places like Konoha and Suna are... more like a bunch of hideouts scattered throughout the Sound country. They're more like test subjects or a personal army for its founder, though.

[She make an immediate and unpleasant connection.]

[He snorts, in an entirely unamused fashion.]

What kind?

[There's a good reason why even at his arrival, Shikamaru never seemed bothered by the Malnosso's idea of experimentation. He can still remember when they first met - Katara commented on how well he was taking it.]

The best way to describe them would be... twisted. My world - all our worlds, I suspect - have nothing like this Shifting the Malnosso use. [Let her keep that in mind. The Malnosso have done experiments the old-fashioned way themselves too, so it's not like the implication should be a mystery.]

His work showed him to be interested in two things with his subjects: seeing what modifications the human body could endure, or otherwise what unique abilities could be harnessed and transplanted.

[The reason he was never bothered was because people like Orochimaru or Kabuto had him expecting worse.]

That's horrible.

[And he turns back to his napkin now continuing to work in the open spaces.]

There's a high mortality rate, no doubt, to get any measure of success in what he does. Not all of his subjects are prisoners though. Believe it or not, some went to him willingly. People with a similar lust for power. [Sasuke. He continues on, face shadowed, but voice still level.]

The end result for those are some monstrous strength and abilities.

[She sits down and processes that. It's... a sickening picture.]
