Aang didn't come out for breakfast today. When I went in his room to check on him, all his stuff was gone. ...I guess this means he went home, right?

And all the stuff in the kitchen is different - does anyone know how they're supposed to work? ~~Or how they got in here without waking us up, because -- seriously, creepy.~~

...but what's making it go? [She crouches down and puts her hand on the door, trying to feel what's going on inside.]

Well it has to be something... [He eyes the microwave. What is that little rope tassel thing hanging out from below it? He traces it to where its connected to the wall at some sort of panel. Hmmm.

He pulls the cord out and looks at it curiously. He then notices the display on the microwave vanished.] This looks promising.

[Katara leans in to peer at the panel.] It looks like it goes into the wall somehow...

[Did he read something about this? Something like this sounds vaguely familiar. Science class, perhaps? He plugs the cord back in, but he can't help but notice that in doing so, a few sparks are loosed in the process. An idea is beginning to form in his mind.]

I think they're piping in a new kind of power. Kind of like water and gas. Only in this case... I think this stuff is lightning powered.

...are you telling me we have lighting in our walls?

Yeah! Isn't it awesome?

No! No it is not awesome! [She backs away from the counter and into the center of the room] Are you insane? How can this possibly be safe?

Well lightning conducts through metal, right? [He unplugs the microwave and turns the cord towards her to show the metal prongs.] See? Metal. As long as we don't stick anything metal into the panels, except for these new wire things, it'll be perfectly fine.

[She is not very reassured.] Sokka. Lighting. In the walls.

[Sigh.] It's fine, Katara. There's a lot more dangerous things in Luceti. That box there makes food warm almost instantly! And look, I'm washing the dishes as we speak! This is a good thing!

You're not washing the dishes, that thing is. You're also not the one who's been spending every day healing lightning damage! I can't believe they would put it in a house!

... Katara. I know lightning can be a really bad thing. I know what it did to Zuko. [And to Aang.] But that doesn't mean it can't be used for good. Water can refresh a person, but it can also drown a person too! Sure, fire can destroy stuff, but I use it all the time to create new stuff in the smithy. Why should lightning be any different?

[You know what you get for being all logical? A flounce. And a glare. And a stubborn statement.] It's not natural for an element to be boxed up like this.

[OK, OK, she knows she's wrong. Fire in the fireplaces and all that. But. It's not the same!]

[He just shakes his head. That one is way too easy to counter. They box up elements all the time and he knows she enjoys indoor plumbing. So he'll find something else to divert attention.]

Sure does keep the room brighter. [He heads over to the lightswitch and turns it off.] Or not. [And on.] Man. I sure do miss those gas lamps we had. Remember last week when I accidentally spilled the oil all over you while refilling one?

[She knows what you're doing, Sokka. It's not gonna work. In fact, she's eyeing the light switch warily right now. Doesn't he get it? Their house is surrounded by fire!]

[He does get it. It's surrounded by science! It's like he's back in the Northern Air Temple again, only ten times better.]

Well sure. If you want to get technical. But at least this way there's no open flames in the house now.

It makes a huge difference. One is followed by thunder. Electricity is followed by a "ding" and suddenly edible beans.

...[She doesn't laugh. She won't laugh. But her lips quirk up enough so that he can tell she's swallowing the laughter back by a force of will.]

Oh yes. Because flying bisons, moving water with your hands, traveling to the spirit world, getting wings on your back, talking animals, and giant invisible barriers are perfectly normal.

Fine. It wants to be like this? Fine. She is not going to let get to her. She won't be afraid of her own house. Katara stalks right back into the kitchen and plugs the toaster back in. It's about time she forced herself to eat something anyway. Might as well find out how this works.]
