Hey, Hugo - if you have a chance, I'd like to talk to you about something.

[And then she shuts the book and moves to her evening practice session behind her house. Today is not about how much water she can move, but it is about control. When the wind blows her journal opened, anyone watching can see thin streams of water moving quick enough to cut intertwining with her arms and legs as she works through a form. The pattern of when she splits a stream, and when she adds more water seems random... until you glance above her head. Any time her concentration is broken by a flash of an image, she adds another and another until all the thought bubble reflects are the forms

If you want to interrupt her, give her a minute - messing up and slicing herself with one of those water streams would be painful. While she normally hates to have her practicing interrupted, tonight it's not quite keeping her mind off of things.]

[BUT! Since she's not sure how he's going to take this anyway, she's going to stop giving him a hard time now. And she shrugs.]

Hugo is a knife fighter. [She moves one hand down to the knife her gave her that she now carries around on her belt every day.] If I'm going to have it, I might as well learn how to use it, right?

[... well that makes sense. And it does make him feel good to know she does carry that knife around with her now. Even so...]

I know how to use a knife.

[Oh, Sokka...] Do you? I've never seen you fight with one - just the sword and boomerang. [She smiles and shakes her head a little, and offers a rare apology.] Sorry. I would have asked you if I'd known.

I guess it's not a big deal. Hugo is probably better with a knife than I am.

[Katara sees that list. And can't help but roll her eyes.]

Probably. Since he just fights with the one weapon.

I'll have you know my head is a very effective weapon. [He thinks back to his first encounter with Ty Lee, where he managed to block her chi blocking with the only part of his body she hadn't disabled yet - his head.]

[Smiling, she pokes him by his collarbone.] That's because it is so hard.

[He takes a half step back because of that. At least it's not punching.] Only because I have to put up with you guys.

Yes, we make your life is so hard.

((It's okay, right?))

It's a wonder how I do it. [And he is so obviously looking at your thought bubble.]

[Katara follows his gaze up.]

((And cue wild flailing. STUPID THOUGHT BUBBLE. There is an image of Katara yelling at herself in the thought bubble, to make it GO AWAY which just-- makes things worse, really.))

[Embarrassed blush.] ...Are we done?

Yeah, sure. I've got somewhere else to be later anyway. (( Have an image of Ty Lee above his head. As a matter of fact, it's a memory of them in the house eating sandwiches. ))

[Yup. That gets a look. She'll just... be staring at his thought bubble now.]

...Sokka?

Yeeeeees....? [And she's looking up, so that means...]

Really? Because it looks like you and Ty Lee are enjoying a couple of sandwiches. In our house. All by yourselves.

... well, okay. That part it does look like. I was working on my canoe, she happened to stop by, and it was lunchtime. I couldn't just tell her to go away because I was hungry.

[This is the 'You are not telling me everything and I am waiting' look. It is in response to his immediate denial and defensiveness. How long can he last?]

(Doot doot doot doot...)

[On one hand, he doesn't have to tell her. He could get away before his thoughts betrayed him. On the other, he made himself look stupid over Hugo just moments ago.]

Fine, fine! I agreed to meet Ty Lee later. She wanted to show me something. That's it.

((Doot doot doot? ...wait. What?))

...and you don't see anything wrong with that.

[He's quiet for a moment as he mulls that over.]

... look, if it wasn't for Mai then me, dad, Suki, and Zuko would have died. Not just hurt, but dying in a boiling lake. Ty Lee might not have ever helped us, but she did help Mai. And by the end of the war, she was a Kyoshi Warrior besides. I think she deserves at least a little trust.

[She crosses her arms.] ((Sokka should recognize the images that flash through her thought bubble now: herself, drowning in sand; their home, burning; Bato's scars -helpless- Hama, laughing; -taking over- Ty Lee, fighting them -from the inside out- learning the chi pathways at the North Pole; Ty Lee, dressed as a friend and surprising her, leading to her capture -against the natural flow of life- the Earth Benders, unable to defend their home... and then a horrible mental image of Sokka himself, wounded and captured and dying in a boiling lake.))

...I don't like it.

((Be careful.))

[Sokka is forced to look away as the images manage to get worse. He shouldn't feel guilty for any of that, because none of it was his fault. But yet he was defending someone who in part helped cause some of it. And then there's the part of him that realizes... is this what she thinks about all the time? When she sees Roku? Or Zuko?]

I'm sorry.

What? ((Why is he sorry?)) Don't be sorry. Just be careful.
