[What with Zuko's unexpected and somewhat... well, dubious bout of hopefully-it-will-be-win and please don't burn their house again, Katara has an unexpected bout of free time. This is both a good thing, and a bad thing, since with the craziness of her first few months dying down, Katara has started to feel homesickness pressing down on her. Couple that with Sokka's keeping secrets, his friendship with Ty Lee, and learning chi blocking, the extra time to think is not... exactly... happy.

So here she is, at the bridge by her house, standing at the arch and staring out over the water.]

[No. It wasn't fair to bring anyone into this. She'd figure it out the same way she always did.]

[Voice: Filtered away from Zuko, 70%]

~~So... has anyone else noticed anything strange going on tonight? There isn't a new experiment going on, is there?~~

[And pretty much immediately after this comment Katara is going to find a way to erase this voice post if it kills her. She didn't mean to upset anyone! It was just - so weird.]

[...And sometime after dinner, she'll be returning to her practicing routine outside of the house, in case she's due for a talking to ~~you know who you are~~.]

Well, I've met quite a few people who weren’t even born yet, in my time. Like Hugo, or Caesar. I probably would never have met them if I hadn't come here. It's interesting, to say the least.

I've also met quite a few friendly individuals my age.

Oh, you're from the same world as Caesar and Hugo? They're both very nice. But if you're from much further back than that... I could definitely see how that would be weird.

Yes, I met them both awhile ago.

It's very weird, indeed. There's quite a few wars, in the future. [His voice sounds a bit depressed by this.] It seems our world never tires of it.

[Gently:] It seems like war is one thing that's common on all the world's I've heard of here.

But they do end, eventually. And in every world I've heard of here, there are also people who are doing what they can to defend the people who need it, and end the war that they're in. And that's all we can do, right? Just deal with when and where we are, and hope for better things.

Indeed. [He's one of those people.] I know the wars will eventually end; it's just... not a pleasant thought to think so many happened in so short a time.

And you're right, of course. If one constantly worries about the future, you're liable to lose grasp of what you can do now.

[She shrugs, a little uncomfortable with how serious his voice is.] Don't mention it.

If there's one thing I know, it's that when bad things happen you have to concentrate on adapting, and doing what you can do. If you think about what you can't, you'll just drive yourself crazy.

Heh - that holds true, double, here.

[Well, to be fair, her words are ringing true like whoa right now.] Indeed. I'll admit this place is strange, But I'm sure, with time, I can make the best of it.

[Her tone sobers a bit:] I'm sure you will too.

But don't forget - we're going to find a way to get home. It's hard to wait and not be able to do anything, but as long as we don't forget, and as long as we keep looking...

...there has to be a way.

I'd never forget. I won't stop wanting to go home, or looking for a way too. I have far too many people waiting for me, and far too much to do.

There is most definitely a way. We just have to find it.
