I think that's a terrible thing to say! Ever since I've got here, practically everyone I've met has been interested in looking out for people other than themselves - with everything from making the school to the welcome center to going into battle for someone they don't even know! Sure, there are a few people here who are just plain evil, but that doesn't change the fact that most of the people here are good, decent people who genuinely care about others and then act on it - just because no one else has thought of doing something like this, doesn't mean that people don't care!
