[After doing everything she could at home to deal with the fact that Zuko was gone, Katara headed out to the lake where she proceeded to bend and cry until she was exhausted. The storm feels good. She made her weary way back to the house with something of a headache, but she didn't think much of it. So what if the lights hurt her eyes? That was normal after so much crying and rage, right?
She fell into a deep, exhausted sleep as soon as she hit the bed. When morning light first entered her room, Katara shifted uneasily. Soon enough she opens her eyes to start the day - and screams. This was beyond a headache, it was like a screaming in her eye, a shooting pain, a burning.
Katara immediately slaps both hands over her eyes and sways back and forth a little to comfort and distract herself from the pain. After a moment of panicked breathing, her adrenaline kicks in and Katara shifts one hand to cover her eyes and fumbles for her journal with the other. Filtering is hopeless right now, even if it had occurred to her, although she'd much rather keep this private. Her voice is scared and filled with suppressed quivering.]
Ginko? I think something's wrong.
[And with that, she clings on to the journal and hopes that someone answers her soon. She can't see anything and it hurts.]

You can't explain how to breathe. You just - know. It's instinctive, beyond your reach, and only barely something that can be controlled. It's like the beating of your heart. You can slow it down, speed it up, if you reach or if you run - it's a matter of getting in touch with a place deep, deep inside of you, where the heartbeat lives. A matter of losing yourself in your own breathing, if you want to make it fast or deep or slow. It's beyond knowing.
You just do.
And if I can't do it - he can't help me.
Breathe, Katara.
Just breathe.
There is a long pause as she does just that, reaching deep inside of herself to the place where instincts dwell, feeling herself breathing, the steady, if accelerated, beating of her heart.
Calm. Slow.
Shut them again.
When she speaks next, her voice is almost dreamy - distant and echoing.]
Is it like a curtain?

That's right.
[he doesn't move a fraction of an inch, now]

She's close now - so close that her instincts have started to clamor a thousand 'What-if' warnings. And Katara makes herself breathe. It's like straining against a heavy wind to the edge of a cliff, teetering on the tip, the tension exquisite.
And then - she lets go.
The curtain falls.
And there is darkness. Her entire body slumps like a puppet freed from its strings. The pain is gone completely for the first time and the absence of it is so sweet.
Everything is louder now - or so it seems. She can feel more - so much more - just beyond her reach. And the more is beautiful.
For a long moment, she almost doesn't want to say anything. She wants to send her senses out and explore. But she can feel the steady weight of Ginko's gaze, and all the love and concern of her family - and her voice is steady and entirely present when she speaks.] I've got it.

And he knows exactly what she is feeling. He's spent long hours in that darkness, with a foot in two worlds. ]
Now.
I need you to open your eyelids-- while keeping your second eyelids closed. And shut them again when I give the word.

[She tenses a little again, in preparation of the pain. But the deep darkness surrounding her comforts her with its vastness. She feels very small inside of it, and the blackness is almost tangible, like she can reach out and touch it.
It should be frightening. But instead it's a reassurance - the very pressure of true darkness whispers that it will not allow any light to encroach on its boundaries.
And even if it hurt, if it's the only way to get better-
Breathe.
Just breathe.
Her hold on her second eyelid is tenuous at best, and it takes what feels like hours for her to be confident enough that they will stay closed - but after a few moments, her eyes flutter opened.
It feels - strange. A little cold. She can feel the air on them, but all she sees is - nothing. Just darkness.]
OK.

...and now, things get interesting. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z2xzZ_2d2Dw&feature=related)
Ginko speaks, and it isn't to Katara or anyone gathered around. Under his breath, with a hint of something teasing-]
Look, mushi.
There's light out here.
.....come out and see.
[And, is if in response to that voice... from the darkness where Katara's eyes used to be creeps (http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss258/mushicaps/2%20-%20The%20Light%20of%20the%20Eyelid/vlcsnap-12184.png) something-- that looks like molten silver. (http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss258/mushicaps/2%20-%20The%20Light%20of%20the%20Eyelid/vlcsnap-12243.png)
It slides down her cheeks in thick rivulets-- before moving (http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss258/mushicaps/2%20-%20The%20Light%20of%20the%20Eyelid/vlcsnap-12533.png) on its own in little tongues-- reaching for the moonlight.

Or so he though. His face pales immediately when he sees Katara's blackened eyes. It was one thing to see Aang's glowing eyes in the Avatar State. That was scary. But this... this was horrible. He wanted to look away. He probably should have, because what followed next nearly made him lose his dinner. His disgust was trumped by the fact this was his sister and whatever the hell Ginko was doing, it didn't look like he was curing her. He didn't know what Ginko was up to, but he'd be damned if he let him finish it.
With that in mind, Sokka takes a step forward to intervene. With any luck, Roku and Toph won't let him.]

/Splitting for Love and Peace
And it doesn't feel like anything is happening - until suddenly, it does.
The cold around her eyes increases and then - it's not like crying, but - it is the strangest, convulsive... the swimming feeling that she felt intensified, a squirming, worming mess of almost a wooosh as the light - she can feel that they're responding to the light - hits them. And they try to get away.
And it's awkward and uncomfortable but not painful, and if they look they'll see that her brows have furrowed in a sort of sick and bemused look.]

[Ginko disregards all distractions, focused intensely on the liquid mushi now blossoming upwards from Katara's raised face.
Slowly, at first, but now with gathering speed-- the mushi expand and grows, flooding from her face until the mass of it is as large... twice as large as Ginko. It spreads and divided like a mass of tree branches, supporting its own weight through some invisible means.
A few cupfuls might drip from the mass near the onlookers, where it will twist and squirm like the living thing it is.
...but there's a change now. The mushi pauses in its ascent as if it has found something even more tantalizing than the moonlight. The man, standing beneath it-- white hair stirring in a breeze that isn't here.
One brief pause as it hangs in the air unmoving-- and Ginko looks at it fixedly. The placid demeanor has fallen away, and he is standing as if rooted to the earth. Not a muscle flinches...
...as the entire flood of it rushes to engulf (http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/ss258/mushicaps/2%20-%20The%20Light%20of%20the%20Eyelid/vlcsnap-13239.png) him head-on. ]

When suddenly, the focus of the swimming things change - almost as if the millions of tiny entities snap into one, united in one purpose - and she can feel the change in direction as suddenly, instead of slow and reluctant, it begins to push its way out - straight out - towards Ginko.
And - it is hungry.]
Ginko!
[It's called out - not with concern, or any sort of 'tell me you're all right' - but as a warning, the kind given in battle. Something is headed your way. You'd best deal with it.]

And it is territory more familiar than half of what has happened to him in Luceti. He'd smirk at the thought if he weren't so focused on the deceptive shadows of the fast-moving flood. There's something in particular that he is looking for.... and after a long few minutes, the onlookers might be able to see his hand dart blurrily toward a shadow.
The he struggles against the rush of mushi--and manages to get his head above it. Shouting- ]
Katara-- now!
Close your eyes.

Again there is that strange sense of - pause. And then she has to fight the urge to take a step back as the pushing feeling abruptly reverses, and rushes back towards her.
Logically, she should be concerned - isn't this exactly what they were trying to prevent?
But it doesn't feel bad. It doesn't hurt. It feels - right. Like taking a breath after you've been holding it for a long time. It stings a little, not unpleasantly, and she thinks in the distance she can almost hear something like chimes.]

He straightens, gripping in one hand a deeply purple mushi that should be visible to any eyes. It writhes in his grasp unpleasantly-- until he crushes the head of it with his thumb in a decisive gesture.
The glow vanishes, and it falls in dusty pieces to the ground.
Ginko pulls off his gloves. ]
...how do you feel? [ to Katara, naturally. ]

She immediately opens the rest of her eyes all the way and blinks in the moonlight.]

And she doesn't hesitate, she runs forward and immediately hugs him.]
It worked! I'm better!

well that isn't usually a response he gets from his..... anyone.
But he's getting to expect it, just a little, from Katara. So he just blinks and grins and hugs her back.]
...heh.

Look out, bro. There is a quick running hug coming in your direction.]
