Hey, Caesar! Do you mind if I stop by this afternoon? [Because mind or not, she is coming. But before she gets there, if you asked after her while she had eye-mushi and she hasn't spoken to you yet, she's looking for you. She will be all about town, since she doesn't know where some of you live. She also plans on checking in with Sokka and the rest of the Gaang at some point today.]
[And later in the evening, after dinner and far past when she is usually fast asleep, you can find Katara practicing not far from her house. Since Ginko died she's been robbed of her rest - combine that with the draft list being posted and she's decided to cope the only way she knows how - by using the time to find some peace. For that purpose, she is doing a special form. She runs through the first without doing any bending at all. When she repeats it, she bends thin tendrils of water up and around and over, following the movements of her hands - and when one catches her eye she freezes it in place, creating a small practice area of frozen arches and swirls.
They won't last long, especially not in the heat of a summer night. That's not the point. That's not the point at all.]

[Derek will stand as he quietly answers her, making it so that she can see him more easily.]
Interesting style. Was just watching it.

[She reaches out a hand to tentatively touch one of the spires, careful not to send it crashing from where it was rooted in the ground.] I don't usually practice like this.
[She's a little embarrassed to be caught using her skills so impractically by someone older. But practicality hadn't really been the point either.]

Hi. And yeah, it has.
[He looks at the ice formations with some appreciation in his gaze.]
Looks like it would take some concentration to be able to pick and choose like that. So this is...'bending', right?
no subject
[She pulls from the nearby ice and streams it in her hands.] It's waterbending.

I'm glad I got to see it.

Like I said - this isn't how I usually practice. But... I'm glad you enjoyed watching it.

[He really is interested, Katara. One of those 'the more you learn' things.]

But a typical move [she speaks as she draws some water from the stream] is something a bit more like this. [And she looses a powerful jet to the side of them, strong enough to knock a grown man back several feet.]
no subject
[Definitely a tone of appreciation, there.]

So what brings you out tonight?

[That's a partial truth, really. He's getting like a bunch of hero types in Luceti, and starting to 'patrol' on and off. Although, in his case, he's a lot more casual about it and doesn't follow a schedule.
Or route. Which is why he's On Yur Lawn, Watching Yur Ice Crystals right now]
Been doing all right?
no subject
As all right as I can be, I guess. It's been a rough few weeks.

Derek nods a little, and there's a flash of concern before he lets his expression settle into something neutral but friendly.]
What's been going on? Just stuff?
no subject
Some friends of mine got to go home... [Because maybe if she starts talking about it, it will lose its power to hurt her.] and... [she doesn't speak of the eye-mushi] another friend of mine got really hurt.

Want to tell me what happened?
{he's offering an ear, if you want it, Katara.
Gah, sorry I have been so slow on this
It's not really my story to tell. I'm not sure she'd want me talking about it.
No worries...this week has been one big ugly for me...:P
If there's anything else, though...
Notif Fail hasn't helped either D:
...it's not anything I can really talk about. [She takes a deep breath and then looks up at the moon.] And the draft's coming up... I guess I knew it would, eventually. But it seems a lot more real, now. It's hard to believe we'll be getting out of this barrier, even if it is to fight.
No it hasn't. Even when I get them, they're often out of order and hours late
Most of them.]
Yeah. [Pause while he remembers an earlier conversation with Sokka] ...Be careful when you go, all right? The Third Party? They aren't folks for talking. They'll try and kill you on sight.
