[ Action, Voice ] .024
[Tomorrow. Tomorrow is tomorrow. Today, she has plans.]
Hey, Winry - do you still want to go get pizza today? I can make it for lunch, but... I can't hang out the whole day.
[She will also be making a point to visit her friends today, specifically the Straw Hat House. She wants to check in on Sanji, now that she knows what's happened to him, say goodbye to Nami... and she has a feeling Ginko will be there as well. If not, she'll try to contact him over the journal.
She also needs to stop in the item's shop. Being given a gift from the water of the river of light... Katara wants to find something similar to the container she used for the spirit oasis water so that if they get out there and she needs it, she'll have it.
The chances are good that she is also going to make a token effort to track down Buffy. She's heard enough about the last fight that she knows what happened there, and she wants to ask a few questions before heading out there - and she wants to hear about how this same mysterious Third Party General had died. It was the mystery that was bothering her - not knowing what they were really going up against or why they were really doing this. If she could talk to someone who'd fought them before, then maybe, maybe... the feeling of being used wouldn't be as strong and she'd be able to focus on what was really important.
She thinks about going over Caesar's house as well, but decides that a journal message will be good enough. He's probably busy preparing - or sleeping. And she had a feeling he wouldn't be able to do as much of that as he'd like, once they got out there.]
[Filtered Voice 90%]
Hey, Caesar. Ready for this?
[After her various conversations, she goes back home to make dinner and she, Sokka, and Toph have a surprisingly normal meal before slipping out a little earlier than normal for her accustomed practice time. She's not sure why they're going out to fight or why the 'why' bothers her so much - and she's a little scared, strung tense with nervous energy. The forms are soothing and precise and tonight there is just that extra edge, just that smallest bit of ruthless passion that gives away just how strongly the drums of her fathers beat within her - this is about war. And war is something Katara knows very well.
But when the sun starts to set she takes a break and takes a seat, watching it go down not thinking about very much at all. It's beautiful.]

You know what? I think you're a lot nicer than you seem to be sometimes.
[And before that has a chance to sink in:] What kind of ice cream do you want?

no subject
Coffee flavored.
no subject
Really? That's a drink, right? Do you see it here?

no subject
Here. [She shoves it unceremoniously into his hands.] Let's go get some spoons and sit outside to eat them.

And then she remembers her conversation with Sanji, and the one she had with Haruki ages ago, when he told her about his world. Her eyes narrow at his back.]
no subject
There. That's better now, right?
no subject
[...But he doesn't open it. Instead he stares at it like he's vaguely expecting it to grow tentacles before, out of the blue-]
Oi, don't you have other people to see?
no subject
Yup. [A pause as she takes this moment to enjoy a spoonful of delicious raspberry goodness.] What about you?
no subject
[Still just... stared at the closed ice cream here]

When I was twelve, my dad took all the men in our village and went to fight in the war. He just left Sokka behind to protect us. When we finally saw him again a few months ago, I was just so... angry. I knew why he'd left us, and I knew why it was important - but that didn't matter. He'd still gone.
[She shakes her head.] War sucks, Haruki. There's nothing about war that's easy, if you've got any human feeling in you at all. Waiting or fighting and knowing you've left people behind to wait - it all just really, really sucks.
[Stepping back, she still doesn't quite meet his gaze.] So eat your ice cream, and then go do what you have to. Make sure you don't leave yourself with any stupid regrets.

She's of half a mind to just let him stalk off. She doesn't need this. Not to mention that just walking away after she'd opened up to him like that leaves her feeling offended.]
no subject
He needs to adapt. Or else she doesn't know what's going to happen to him.]
Hey! [She lets go of his arm to point accusingly back at the ice cream.] What's the big idea!
no subject
[That said, he did resist the arm pull. And the turning around. He even starts walking away again as soon as she lets him go because he does not want nor - in his mind - need this sort of reprimand from someone younger than him.
no subject
That's not all. If you want me to leave you alone right now, you can say it or if you want to talk about it - you can say that too. I don't care if you even want to fight about it, but you should say it, Haruki. You can't just walk away - you need to face it and decide what you're going to do so that you can live with it. If the only thing we've got here is choice about how we deal with what's going on, then we should at least choose.
1/2
Whatever! So you have a sob story and so does everyone else! So you're all from war-torn shitholes or whatever, whatever! What the hell is with you talking like you know everything?! What the hell is with- [me being looked down on by everyone- But he stops short there, balling a fist at his side as he looks away because hell, maybe he meant that but he sure didn't mean to say it-]
2/3 I lied
[And then, panting a little, he glares at the ground such that it might just light on fire. And then, in spite of himself, he calls out a little to the fire spirit to do just that - that is, launch a little fireball from about his chest area towards the ground and try lamely to light dirt on fire]

-holy crap, fire. Fire which then proceeds to do... nothing.
She's looking at him with a bit of wariness now, but he hangs his head and the isolation in his words, the sheer unfairness and pain of it all steals her breath.]

I know it's not fair. This place... everything's wrong about it. And even when you're glad that people come back from the dead, it's still... wrong. I'm sorry - it's not fair.
no subject
I don't know how anyone can last here as long as some of you have. But you have. And I think that's amazing.

...You know.
