[For no very specific reason at all, Katara is happy this late afternoon. The air is getting colder, and the very fact that it's nipping at her face is enough to make her smile. Add to that the glorious storm of yesterday, that it is still drizzling...

It's started drizzling as she runs her errands in town, and she puts a hand up to bend an 'umbrella' above her head as she walks along. She forgets herself, though, as she comes to some large puddles in the road, and dropping her hand, stares at them for half a beat.

Well, she's already wet.

So she jumps in. Not bending at all, simply splashing about in the puddles along her way.

Feel free to catch her in this rare display of immaturity and glee - or even join her! Hopefully she won't catch a cold.

Much later, as she prepares dinner for her house, she makes a voice post.]

[Katara has finished her shopping as well - sausage and noodles and apparently an extra pepper, just in case. They need more milk - they always seem to need more milk - but she's out of room with what she can bring back, so she bypasses it.]

Maybe sometime later this week? If you're not too busy, or anything.

[Looks good. He might regret not trying to join Katara for dinner tonight later- but quiche calls.]

If I am busy, whatever might be occupying me should be able to wait.

[Her eyebrows shoot up at that bit of gallantry. ~~Can you tell she is used to automatically friend-zoning people?~~]

Or you could tell me to come over a little later. [She smiles.] You're the one doing me a favor, after all.

I'm all yours, whenever you like.

Unless I'm out in the woods or near the mountains- then I'd just have a bit of a hike ahead of me first~

[He relishes the friend zone. It translates to Michael-ese as "Your best isn't bad- now prove you're better."]

[Blink, blink. OK, what was this strange skidding across her senses about him saying that and why did it even bother to show up now? An almost nervous laugh -- ignore the words themselves and go for the sentiment expressed which, Katara is pretty sure is that any time she wants to come by is fine.]

It will probably be sometime in the afternoon. I'm usually free after school.

[The sentiment was probably worse than the words themselves in that case- but Michael only about half-caught it himself.]

Ah, We could just do it after class someday then. Decided to try my hand at school here too. Only had about a year left back on Frontier, almost seems a waste to not try and finish things up after all those years I put into it.

[She visibly brightens at this. She likes Michael. He's nice, and interesting, and she thinks it will be good to see him every day, and good for him to meet more people.]

That's a great idea! The professors are very nice, and school is a great way to meet new people. I go every day, and I've already learned a lot. I really like it.

[He thinks it's a great way to meet people too. Female people.

But seeing Katara every day...

That idea holds a new and alien feeling of... promise?]

Sounds like fun, even without an aviation program~

[His words bring a shade of concern to her eyes.] I don't know... I mean, it's just two school rooms, one for older kids and one for younger. It's probably the kind of stuff that you've learned already - a lot of the people from the more technological worlds seem to be really familiar with what we're taught.

[Not so, Katara. Luceti is her first time attending a school, though she was literate and knew basic math when she came here.] But you could always just come for the classes that interest you, if you get too bored. That's what Sokka does.

[He's got the rough equivalent of an incomplete high school education- with the addition of extensive pilot training courses. Aparently in Macross!world, most students' education focuses on how to be a pilot, an idol singer, or one of a number of careers that serve as support for those two.]

I'll play it by ear- I spent some time studying with Mitsuru in preparation for the placement test- the basic curriculum seems to be right in line with Mihoshi Academy's.

Mitsuru? [That name pings Katara - she'd been meaning to get to know the older girl better, since their impromptu race on these glowing blue bikes a few experiments ago.] She seems really nice. I'm sure you did just fine on the test.

[And look, they are towards the doorway now.] So I guess I'll see you on Monday?

[He holds the door open for her again, his umbrella hooked on the same arm as his groceries.]

Yeah- I can't wait~

[And with one more smile at Michael, off she goes to be interrogated by her brother as to why she is in such a good mood. Oh dear.]
