[Should you be passing by the bridge between the clinic and the Item Shop on this fine, finally-a-break-from-the-heat afternoon, you will notice that there has been a certain change in the landscape. A large wall, seemingly made out of one solid chunk of earth has appeared by the riverbank and painted white. At varying points in the day there may also be some spheres, pyramids, inverted pyramids appearing beside the wall... and that white wall is on its way to becoming multicolored.

There by the wall is a large sheet and on it rest pretty much every container of water-soluble paint found in the Item Shop, mainly strong primary colors. There are balloons and small buckets and bowls, and just about everything you could want in order to throw paint at a white wall.

Random passerby, what do you do? Continue on your way and hope not to get splashed with mud, water, or paint? Stop to wonder at this strange work of 'art?' Or if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, there does seem to be more than enough paint...]

[Motioning towards that giant splatter of paint with his usable hand.] What's that supposed to be?

[A beat of his own.] It looks like an incomplete rainbow.

[She turns to regard the cheerfully splattered wall. There are some patterns from when she's run her hands through the wet paint, but for the most part...]

I guess you're right.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to get my hands dirty. [Or hand, in this case, but whatever. Same metaphor.

He'll walk right over, taking some of the paint with his working hand as he passes it.] By the way, if you don't mind me asking, who are you? I'm Souji.

I'm Katara. [Beaming smile!] It's nice to meet you Souji.

[And she gestures to the wall with a grin.] Splash it on anywhere.

With pleasure. [And with an earnest smile, he does just that, smearing the paint in his hand onto it in whatever abstract fashion he can think of.]

[In a matter of moments, it turns to curiosity as he peers over at Katara.] So what drove you to do this, anyway?

[Katara grins when the Souji just starts right in. See? She knew this was a great idea. And she watches him out of the corner of her eye, wondering why she hadn't noticed him around Luceti before...

So she's actually a little startled at the question.] Well, I thought it would be fun. I didn't want to do it inside, and Toph could build the wall pretty easily... plus, I figured this way other people could join in if they wanted to.

It's been a stressful month for a lot of people so I thought... [She trails off, shrugs a little and traces an abstract design on a mix of blue and red paint.] It's just kind of nice.

So you did it to help people relax, huh...I see. [He picks up some of the yellow paint and continues from where he splattered his initial batch.

Hm, wait a sec, there's a name he doesn't recognize in there.] Who's Toph?

[Ah - backtracking. He'd surprised her with the question and she hadn't meant to let quite so much information out.]

...well, isn't it relaxing?

[Katara's version of backtracking is not like other people's version of backtracking, clearly.]

Toph's a friend of mine from back home. She made the wall. She's down by the riverbank right now. I think she's going to work on building some different shapes with the mud.

[A nod, and a bit more splashing to boot.] A bit messy, but that comes with throwing all this paint around.

[That...honestly made him sweat a bit, though not enough to stop him from continuing this splattering.] How'd she put together something this big?

That's all right - the paint's waterbased so it won't be too hard to clean up. [And she means that in more than one way.

She glances over at him - ]

Toph made the wall with her bending. It didn't take her very long at all. [Pause a beat.] She's an earthbender.

[He merely nods at that first statement. The one she follows up with, on the other hand, boggles him a bit.

...Okay, maybe a bit was understating the situation. Sorry, he does not noes about you or your fellow benders. :|'] 'Earthbender'?

Right. [Ah, is it demonstration time? Katara's taken her waterskin off for the paint-throwing, but it's laying on the sheet over there... and while she can bend this paint, she'd rather not confuse the matter. She reaches out from where she's standing to the waterskin and calls a small amount of water, and circles it over her outstretched hand.]

She can do with earth what I can do with water. I'm a waterbender.

[Blink. Blink. Staring at that little bit of water in her grasp. Now that he has a clear view of how it's done, it looks much simpler to understand.] So you basically 'bend' an element to your will. Is that what I'm getting here?

Basically. [With a shrug, but he may notice that as she sends the water back, it is in conjunction with her hand movements.]

[Being an attentive person at heart, he catches that little detail and blinks again.] It's practically an extension of you, the way it's moving.

[He pauses to take a look as it hits the stream, before turning back to their handiwork.] That probably explains how you handled all this paint, too. [And speaking of which, shouldn't they still be splashing this wall and completing that messy rainbow?]

Well, that's how I painted it white, yeah.

[She splashes on some red.] But I thought it'd be more fun to do the rest like this.

[A small chuckle.] I see...I see.

[He'll start completing the rest of this messy rainbow he plastered onto the wall. He certainly looks like he's enjoying himself, given that small grin on his face.]
