[Should you be passing by the bridge between the clinic and the Item Shop on this fine, finally-a-break-from-the-heat afternoon, you will notice that there has been a certain change in the landscape. A large wall, seemingly made out of one solid chunk of earth has appeared by the riverbank and painted white. At varying points in the day there may also be some spheres, pyramids, inverted pyramids appearing beside the wall... and that white wall is on its way to becoming multicolored.

There by the wall is a large sheet and on it rest pretty much every container of water-soluble paint found in the Item Shop, mainly strong primary colors. There are balloons and small buckets and bowls, and just about everything you could want in order to throw paint at a white wall.

Random passerby, what do you do? Continue on your way and hope not to get splashed with mud, water, or paint? Stop to wonder at this strange work of 'art?' Or if you don't mind getting your hands dirty, there does seem to be more than enough paint...]

I'm thinking by this point he won't. Suki must be the most patient woman ever to put up with him. [She's exaggerating, but for comedic effect.]

Yeah, you've got that right. I'm sure glad I'm not in her shoes.

Me, too. [Then she giggles.] Even if I'm told they're very comfy. [She sounds more amused than the comment deserves -- she's remembering one experiment where Sokka was trapped in Suki's body and made a big deal of how comfy Suki's shoes were.]

[And Toph catches on to that. She stops working on a little Bosco the Bear statue and plays the comment back in her head--that sounded like there was a story behind it.]

Um...does she talk about her shoes being comfy a lot, or something?

[Another laugh.] No, it's just -- I probably shouldn't tell you about this. [She hesitates.]

Let's just say that Sokka had to borrow Suki's shoes once, and he kept talking about how comfortable they were. That's all.

[She cocks an eyebrow. Borrowed Suki's shoes? That sounded pretty fishy.]

Well, if you're not gonna tell me, I guess I'll just have to ask him later.

[Ffff. Hmm. She'd not feel so bad about telling her about it if she weren't sure what Suki would think of it. And she told Sokka that she wouldn't tell people about his time as a girl, which would only embarrass him. She sighs.]

I'd tell you, but -- I promised him I wouldn't tell anyone. I shouldn't have even said that much.

[She frowns, not really wanting to get Fenimore in trouble, but curious all the same. Hmm.]

Maybe I'll find another way to get it out of him.

Uh. [Hmm. Maybe she should tell her and ask her to keep quiet about it?

...Probably best not to put her foot any further in her mouth than it already is.] Well, maybe. It was just a weird thing the Malnosso did a while ago.

[Then she frowns, temporarily distracted by this.] Ugh, yeah. They just keep getting worse and worse, it seems like.

[She frowns, too.] It's not like they were ever any good. ...There's nothing we can do about that, though. [Time to take out her frustrations at the Malnosso by picking up a small paint bucket and sloshing its contents at the wall.]

...Good point. Guess we just gotta make the most of it. Show 'em there stupid experiments can't get us down! [She's saying this as much for her own benefit as for Fenimore's.]

[There's slightly more hesitation than she would have had before she experienced a mallynap, but, after the hesitation, she manages a little smile.] Yeah. It's not like the village is such a bad place to be. And most of the people here are pretty nice.

[She considers this for a moment before shrugging.] Guess so. I'd still rather be at home, though.

Well, that goes without saying. You'd have to have a terrible home to prefer to stay here.

[And Toph can't help but think about her parents--not something she really liked to dwell on too often. She really...yeah. Never mind. Not going there right now.]

Yeah. Oh, well. No point thinking about it too much.

[She sighs.] I'll leave that kind of thinking to the people whose job it is to worry about that. I guess the rest of us are just going to have to wait.

Yeah, you're right. [Which is very lame, because Toph hates feeling like she can't do anything.]

[She doesn't say anything right away, staring at the paint-splattered wall.] Don't worry too much about it. Well, as far as I can tell, a lot of people don't even last here for a year. [Pause.] Well, that's still a long time, but it's not forever.

[Though she's not sure if she really believes that, since she's sometimes pessimistic about whether she'll ever get back home. ...Which I realize now that Toph might pick up on with her lie-detecting powers.]
