Sokka

♦♦♦♦♦
The Older Brother. Family relationships are especially important in the watertribe, but considering that they practically raised each other, her relationship with her brother might be closer than most. They have radically different ways of viewing the world, and sometimes he frustrates her beyond belief, but Sokka is also the one person in the world that Katara depends on to be there for her, no matter what. She wouldn't only die for him, she'd kill for him. (Not that she would ever admit any of that to his face.)

Intensive CR essay here.

Aang

♦♦♦♦♦♥
Aang. It's impossible to put him in a category - he's both the hope she's waited her whole life for, the story that she heard about from her Gran Gran, and the kid who brought fun back into the village and asked her to go penguin sledding. She worries for him, and she'll do anything it takes to support him. He's her best friend and maybe something more. It's amazing how someone she's known for such a short amount of time has become such a large part of her world.

Zuko

♦♦♦♦◊♥♥
So, so Complicated. Despite a more than bumpy beginning, Katara has managed to get over her mistrust for Zuko in the light of learning how he'd helped her in her future. They've finally confronted each other about what happened during the love experiment, and she's declared him her friend - a position she's already had to back up when his careless words about Roku's past caused the young Avatar to burn their house down. She's also not choosing to examine her emotions too closely regarding him, but that month of caring for him definitely made an impact. They've come to get to know each other very well indeed - and there's no middle ground with this kind of trust for Katara, either she does or she doesn't, and right now, Zuko holds her trust.

Suki

♦♦
Katara has a lot of respect for Suki, and not only because she somehow miraculously manages to put up with - and even like - her older brother. But she respects Suki's skill as a warrior and a leader, expressing relief when approaching who she believes are the Kyoshi Warriors during the fall of Ba Sing Se. She wishes she could have spent her whole life training with bending the way that Suki has with her weapons. Katara wouldn't have been satisfied if her brother had gotten together with anyone less awesome, and she looks forward to getting to know the older girl better.

Longshot

♦♦◊
When she first met Longshot, he was a member of Jet's freedom fighters. Katara didn't think much of the silent boy then - he faded in the background compared to Jet. But then, everything did. After he fired the shot that would have wiped out an entire town, only to have the day saved by Sokka's foresight, she didn't give him further thought until they all ran into each other again at Ba Sing Se. His first and last words to her were a promise that he would take care of Jet as he lay dying. Since he's been in Luceti, Katara has come to rely on him as someone from home. He keeps his word, he's loyal and tough, and recently she's found that he's an excellent listener. She was able to confide in him when she wasn't sure how to talk about her problem with anyone else, and she counts him as a friend.

Iroh

The only time Katara 'met' Iroh he had come with Aang to rescue her from the bowels of Ba Sing Se. She doesn't know the older man well at all, but she does know the respect and love that Zuko has for him, that Zuko attributes much of his change of heart and character to Iroh, and that tells her a lot.

Jet

◊◊◊◊♦♥♥
Once she admired him very much, as much for his charisma and charm as his leadership abilities and willingness to strike against the Fire Nation... that was before she found out that he was a ruthless terrorist who tried to use her bending to wipe out a town filled with innocent people. In Luceti, things are more complicated: Jet died helping Aang, but that doesn't wipe away what he'd done... it just makes her feel guilty and responsible.

Sadly, Jet has recently blown his second chance in Luceti during one of the experiments, and Katara had to be talked out of going to find and attack him. She thinks he is one of the biggest jerks she's ever met, and she desperately wishes that she could deny their earlier connection.
