[Sneeze and you break it filter to CR at around 4 am this morning.]

I'm back. I'm fine. I hope everyone's okay. Good night.

[So then Katara wakes up much, much later and will be just puttering around the house for a while for those who are inclined to catch her in serious conversation. She sends notes to Trafalgar and to Gelda to let them know that although she's back she feels like she needs to take a few days off... she's still very tired, and as of yet not feeling like being around people.

All that changes, however, on Wednesday. She needs to get out of the house, she needs to do something life-affirming and fun... and isn't it fortunate that she's been working on building several ~~insane~~ ~~monstrous~~ intense snow tracks for people to go sledding on? She decides to go check on them and to bring her journal with them.

Finding that their structural integrity hasn't been too damaged without constant maintenance and that the cold weather still holds... she decides that today is the day to show them off.]

Hey, everyone - I've been working on something the past few weeks and if you like sledding then... [She trails off and flips the journal over so that the journal feed will reveal three sledding tracks. She's made good use of all the snow in the past month or so, the clearing is very nearly bare of it - instead, there is the very large one, made completely of tunnels and requiring snow-cut stairs to ascend and once dared will necessitate a few on-the-walls themselves turns, there is the slightly less large one that seems to be composed mostly of sheer drops, and there is the normal-sized one that is essentially one long spiral down to ground level.] then grab your sleds. Don't worry, I've had a few people test them and they've held up just fine! It's south of the barracks, by the river.

[OOC: If anyone wants to come sledding, please do! Threadjacks of all sorts are welcome!

Also, if I could get those who attend the school, work in the clinics, or attend combat medicine lessons to give this a quick glance and offer input, that would be awesome! \o/!]

[She sighs a little.]

Yeah. [But, knowing how he is about these books...] I had to heal a Malnosso. That was weird.

[Working together with those guys after all they've done? Yeah, it's still going to take some getting used to. It speaks of what type of person Katara is though, that she went as far as to heal him anyways. On her own or ordered, the mindset of a lot of people going on those missions isn't as forgiving as that.]

You get a thank you out of it?

[Said dryly... but he really is curious.]

I didn't do it for the thank you. [She did it because he was bleeding out.]

...but not then, no.

Why you did it was never the question.

[That's said with some good humor, because he gets it. Because it was the right thing- well, maybe not that. A very Katara-thing to do. He finds it funny how many actions she makes can be defined like that.]

[But then he sighs, and his tone settles more to disappointment.]

Maybe next time.

He nodded at me when I left. That's something. [Not that she cares, really. For whatever reason - that wasn't why she did it.]

Actually, there was something else I wanted to talk to you about - on the mission.

[And here's where Shikamaru can decide just how much of a lead-in that is to a mysterious topic, because Katara's going on faith here that his filters are unhackable.]

[His filters have been unhackable to everyone but the Malnosso since a week after he got here. She's good. 8|b]

[...that's a symbol he hasn't seen in a long time. Hasn't thought about in a while, because so much has happened lately, and that's before he even showed up here.

And it's a good thing the images in the journal window are so small so she can't see it, because he actually goes white.]

[Other than a pause, he sounds normal when he opens his mouth though.]

Oh. Okay. I thought you'd like to know.

[Her: HE IS BEING SECRETIVE senses are tingling, but. Whatever. Shikamaru never was a fountain of information, so maybe her senses are wrong.]

[...he'd actually like to hear more, but the Malnosso are listening. He's more worried about what they'd take from this than what she would.]

...I have some stuff I gotta do, but we should meet up later, if you want.

[She doesn't even really blink at this. It kind of confirms her Secretive Senses. She knows he doesn't really like talking over the journals.]

I'll be around. I'm taking my time getting back into the swing of things. Just come find me. I'll have my journal.

[No, she's not offering to go meet at your house. 8|]

All right. [That doesn't even surprise him. 8| He grins and half-salutes at the journal before going.] I'll see you around, then.

[At least in a few hours he'll have an idea of where to look, when that sledding announcement goes up. Luckily he was headed South anyways.]

[Well, she's not coming back from where she's prepared those sledding tracks until dark, so if it's any time after the announcement and before then, that's where he'll find find her.

And as it happens, she's not sledding at the moment. She's sitting under a tree, not too far off, just... watching.]

[That weariness seems to have faded, at least, and she looks a little happier. Shikamaru will approach quietly from the side of the tree, making his presence a little more apparent when he's close so he doesn't startle. He turns his attention to the sled courses, leaning against the tree.]

So how long did it take to make those?

[She turns at hearing his approach and smiles.]

A couple of weeks. It's how I'd been practicing before the drafts.

Huh. Looks cool. I'm surprised no one's taken advantage of 'em before this without an invitation.

Some people might have, but not many people come down here in the winter. [She hoists herself up.] Ready to give them a try?

I'll pass, but thanks. Not big on snow.

[WHICH YOU KNOW. He has only complained about a billion times.]

It's not going to get any more warm just standing here.

Come on, Shikamaru, I worked hard on these. Aren't you going to try just one?

I'll let you pick? [Secretly, she hopes he'll go for the tunnel. It's the biggest one, but also the one that she thinks he'd enjoy the most. And it's the one she put the most work into.]
