...would anyone who's been kidnapped by the Malnosso before agree to meet with me somewhere and talk about it? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

I don't remember that much about it, but if there's anything I can do to help you there, I'll answer your questions.

Thanks. Is there any place you'd rather meet?

I hear the barracks is about the best spot for private discussions that need to be made off the journals. [Basically, least likely to be heard by Malnosso]

[The barracks. Where she and Toph put so much work into making a birthday party for Sokka. Great.] Sure. I'll meet you there. I'm Katara, by the way.

[And so, Katara will make her way towards the barracks.]

[He doesn't know that, just knows what was said by certain people about best places for private discussions.] I'll be there shortly then. And I'm Flik, nice to meet you, though probably not the best of circumstances.

[And he's headed out now too, should be over there shortly after Katara.]

[Katara will be standing there, looking around and trying not to appear as lost as she feels. On her way there, his name will have been bothering her -- she's heard it before, but where?]

Hi. Flik, right? [Have a semblance of a smile.]

[He volunteered to help Toph out with her defense project?]

Yes, and you are Katara?

Yes. [...and the light of recognition!]

Are you from the same world as Caesar and Hugo?

Yeah, but from different times. I know Caesar's cousins a bit better than I knew him before coming here. [Which is probably the easiest way to say Caesar was just a baby in his time, yay for incredible time differences.]

[She nods.] He told me about you. He said that you were a hero.

[She sighs a little and glances away for a moment.] I'm sorry to meet you like this. One of my friends was taken last night. I want to know what happened - how they took you.

[Flik really does hate that whole being called a hero thing, but he'll let it rest for now, more important things obviously, like assuring Katara that victims of kidnappings will come back and will be fine.] If I recall right, I was in the forest, or at least outside the village at the time. Don't know if you were around when that weird amusement part thing was going on, but that's when it happened. I was headed back to it and some strange things came. I tried to fight back, but they still took me.

Your friend will be back. I was gone about two weeks, but many are gone less time than that from what I hear over the journals. I just needed a few days of rest and was fine.

[Katara listens attentively and does in fact take comfort from the fact that it's confirmed that Toph will be back.]

What did the things that took you look like? There were no tracks when [her voice breaks and she takes a breath and continues] we found where they'd taken Toph.

[He thinks for a moment, but can't really find words to describe the Malnosso droids, because well, things like that don't really exist in his world, not commonly at least. Though he is brought to mind about those strange things Juppo and Meg made...] Probably about the only way to describe them is large dolls, my world doesn't really have a name for such things. They move on their own and are very strong. Even my rune magic did little to them.

Like dolls that move on their own... [Katara has a little experience with that... but in her case, it was with people who were being manipulated to move like dolls.]

Did you get to see what the place you were taken to looked like? Or where it was?

I really don't remember much of anything during those two weeks. Considering no one can ever find someone who's been kidnapped until they are returned, it must be outside the barrier.

[She shivers a little.] Maybe it is. Maybe that's just what they want us to think. They seem to make a big deal about actually opening the barrier for this war they want us to fight -- with how many kidnappings there are every week, would they really do that?

I've heard of people going and looking for those who get kidnapped, but no luck there. I wish I could tell you there is more you can do besides wait, but that seems to be all that can be done besides keeping an eye out for when she does return.

[Katara nods. Maybe. But maybe not.] I see.

[He gets an attempt at a smile.] Well, I'll definitely do that. Thanks, Flik. I really appreciate you meeting me like this.

No problem. Just be careful if you go to keep an eye out for her return. This place isn't completely safe and you don't need to be getting yourself hurt.

I'll be careful. I know this place isn't safe, and when she comes back I'm sure that Sokka will be going with me. We'll be fine.

I hope I get to talk to you some other time, Flik. [Have a genuine small smile.] You seem very nice.
