Aang didn't come out for breakfast today. When I went in his room to check on him, all his stuff was gone. ...I guess this means he went home, right?

And all the stuff in the kitchen is different - does anyone know how they're supposed to work? ~~Or how they got in here without waking us up, because -- seriously, creepy.~~

Hi, Erza! I've got a few questions about magic, and you're the only one I know here who does it. Do you mind?

[As for action? Katara is not going very far today. In fact, she is stuck inside, doing healing sessions with the invalid and making sure he stays in bed, and trying to figure out how all this crazy new stuff works. If you think she'd open the door for you and let you in, feel free to stop by and give the girl ~~something else do~~ a helping hand!]

Sokka! Let me see! [And she grabs his hand to inspect it for a burn.] Oh. That's not that bad.

[Dropping his hand, she turns her attention to the open microwave. Her voice holds a little awe.] It's... steaming.

[He jerks his hand away. He knew it wasn't that bad!

He's a little more careful as he reaches for a nearby towel and reaches for the bowl with it, bringing it out and setting it on the counter.]

I... I think it's already cooked. [His hand idly searches for a spoon.]

Already? ...But that's so fast!

[She'll watch with some trepidation, but she won't stop Sokka from doing what he wants. After all... it's only beans. Surely no one would magically enchant... beans.]

[That IS way too fast. Even a firebender would have trouble manipulating heat to cook beans like that without burning it. But this... this isn't magic. Just like the mystery of that light in the big cold box, there had to be a scientific explanation for it.

And science can't be cursed. So he takes a spoon full and after a moment's hesitation, puts it in his mouth. He chews them over carefully and finally swallows. It's... not as tasty as usual, but its surprisingly edible.] Tastes fine to me.

[Sigh. Oh, Sokka. Why must you scientifically test everything by tasting it? All the same, at this Katara's going to come close and peer into the bowl.] Really? That's so... I don't even know.

I know exactly what it is. Awesome, that's what! Dinner in a few minutes!

[And suddenly his attention is diverted by a curious new box beside the sink. He peers inside and sees two large trays in it. What could it possibly be for? Certainly not for washing dishes.] Hmmm. I bet this is some kind of special new stove.

[Katara is not so sure about that. She is not, in fact, so sure about any of this.] But where is the heat coming from?

A gas oven I can understand, but that box didn't even have any fire!

[He waves a hand dismissively.] I'm sure I'll find an explanation for it in some science book. There were bright lights on in there, you know. I touched the one they put in my room and it was really hot. Maybe the lights in there are just really, really hot.

[He shuts the dishwasher door and messes with the dials. Is that the sound of running water?]

[She does not like that look. She does not like that look at all.] But Sokka--

[Hey, that does sound like running water. And she can feel it, too. Move over, big bro, Katara's shouldering her way in and opening that door to the sight of jets of water stopping as soon as the door opens.] Woah.

[Of course her opening it will stop the jets quickly after, but long enough that Sokka got a good look at them.]

Well, I think it's pretty obvious what this does. Let me go grab my dirty clothes.

OK - what, Sokka - wait! There are racks in here. [She pulls one out to demonstrate.] There's no room for clothes in here. Besides - why would you put something to clean clothes in the kitchen?

[Well she does have a point. He'll come back and stare at the racks. They did seem designed to hold certain things. He eyes it... and then the bowl of beans. And then he gets an idea.

He dumps the bowl of beans out in the garbage and then sets the bowl on one of the racks.] Yeah. That should do it.

...you just threw away food.

[Sorry, she'll pay attention in a minute. Just let her get over this shock. ...OK.]

...So, what, you think we put dishes in it?

[He shrugs.] I said it tasted fine, not great. Besides, we're not exactly in a food shortage.

[He'll go ahead and grab the dishes they used for breakfast and stack them in there too. This may be a bit alarming for you, Katara, but Sokka is essentially washing the dishes now. One it's all loaded, he'll close the door and let it come back on.] And now we wait.

[...if he's doing what she thinks he's doing... Katara opens the door again.] You forgot the soap. Where do you think it goes?

Oh. Um.

[He peers inside and looks around. There does seem to be a small little place to store stuff in with a door flap on it.] Maybe it goes here?

...we could try? ...This is weird.

No, this is science, Katara. [Adding the soap now and closing it.] I wonder how long it takes.

...but what's making it go? [She crouches down and puts her hand on the door, trying to feel what's going on inside.]

Well it has to be something... [He eyes the microwave. What is that little rope tassel thing hanging out from below it? He traces it to where its connected to the wall at some sort of panel. Hmmm.

He pulls the cord out and looks at it curiously. He then notices the display on the microwave vanished.] This looks promising.

[Katara leans in to peer at the panel.] It looks like it goes into the wall somehow...

[Did he read something about this? Something like this sounds vaguely familiar. Science class, perhaps? He plugs the cord back in, but he can't help but notice that in doing so, a few sparks are loosed in the process. An idea is beginning to form in his mind.]

I think they're piping in a new kind of power. Kind of like water and gas. Only in this case... I think this stuff is lightning powered.

...are you telling me we have lighting in our walls?

Yeah! Isn't it awesome?

No! No it is not awesome! [She backs away from the counter and into the center of the room] Are you insane? How can this possibly be safe?
