[It's the second day of a heatwave, and it's amazing how little things like weather can drive man-eating butterflies, flying trees of burning pointy doom, and missing friends from a Southern Watertibe girl's mind. ...OK, maybe not that last one, but she's feeling this heat in her bones, man, and it's driven her to put on her Fire Nation outfit and just lounge around, trying not to think about the horrible things she's seen week... which of course makes her think about the horrible things she's seen everywhere.

But the best way to get rid of bad memories is to think about good ones... and when that fails, make them.

And so, Katara Has An Idea. She grabs her brother, he agrees, and they make their way to the center of the square and set up a table. It's laden with fruits and sugars and stacks of glasses.

A little bit of waterbending later? And that fountain is now completely iced over, meant to resemble one of their 'Great Wonders of the World', an ice oasis in the middle of the desert.

When they're all set up, Katara makes a voice entry.]

Hey, everyone! Come on to the fountain for free fruit slushies!

[Feel free to come upon them on any part of the process, stop by for a slushie, or take a look at the pretty ice-fountain! Either Sokka, Katara or (eventually, as I have to run out right now) both will answer!]

[ So she'll sigh in relief at seeing his familiar face rather than somebody else completely. And then nod. ]

Well you're in luck! Me and my sister are making slushies. [He gestures over to where his sister is.]

Step on up!

[ She's seen pokemon freeze water before, so it's pretty normal back home - but seeing a person do it is completely different. ]

Is that magic?

We call it waterbending, but close enough. [He heads to the other side of the table.]

Water and ice?

[ And she'll glance down in awe, finally, at the table. That's a lot of supplies. ]

Um, have you two been here all day?

Nah. Only an hour or so now. [He glances over at his sister.] That's Katara over there, by the way.

[ Only one hour? That's too short a time. But it wouldn't hurt to ask, probably. ]

Did somebody with black hair and golden eyes stop by? Um, he usually has a cap and goggles...

[ She'll indicate his height with her hands here, unsure if Sokka's met him before. ]

... oh, Gold? [He's the only one he knows of that makes goggles a fashion statement.] Nope.

Oh, I see... Thank you for answering, Sokka. [ But the disappointment and worry is pretty plain on her face and also in her tone.]

[... oh wait.]

... how long has he been gone?

We haven't seen him since... [ Quick thinking back to dates and days. ] Um, two or three days ago?

Is something wrong?

He's not the only person missing. [There's the SOS Brigade people... Winry... Ty Lee... that guy Mikage, whoever that was. And Katie. And now Gold.] And they all went missing at the same time.

Ehh? Others are missing too?

[ That sounds really bad. And that does explain, a little, in some way, why she hasn't seen some faces in so long. ]

I-It's not... normal, is it?

... not like this, no. Not without warning. [The last time that many people were gone was a draft. But they had a lot of forewarning for that.]

[ Frowning now, thinking, but not really relieved at hearing how mass disappearances can occur with warnings normally... ]

Is it possible to ask the, um, M-Malnosso about the disappearances? Would they answer...?

I asked about a kidnapping once from the old guy. He acted like he had no idea what I was talking about.

[ Blinks. Old guy? ]

They... don't know about it?

[ It's a really weird thought, especially if anything in the guide is to go by. ]

I wonder if they're stuck someone in the wilderness...

[Aaaaand chopping up some strawberries now.]

So you and Gold... are you brothers or something?

[ Br-Brothers...?? ]

N-No!

[ ... well at least Sokka still thought she was male. She'd thought otherwise for a bit. ]

We're friends. All of us here... And everyone else back home too.
