[It's the second day of a heatwave, and it's amazing how little things like weather can drive man-eating butterflies, flying trees of burning pointy doom, and missing friends from a Southern Watertibe girl's mind. ...OK, maybe not that last one, but she's feeling this heat in her bones, man, and it's driven her to put on her Fire Nation outfit and just lounge around, trying not to think about the horrible things she's seen week... which of course makes her think about the horrible things she's seen everywhere.

But the best way to get rid of bad memories is to think about good ones... and when that fails, make them.

And so, Katara Has An Idea. She grabs her brother, he agrees, and they make their way to the center of the square and set up a table. It's laden with fruits and sugars and stacks of glasses.

A little bit of waterbending later? And that fountain is now completely iced over, meant to resemble one of their 'Great Wonders of the World', an ice oasis in the middle of the desert.

When they're all set up, Katara makes a voice entry.]

Hey, everyone! Come on to the fountain for free fruit slushies!

[Feel free to come upon them on any part of the process, stop by for a slushie, or take a look at the pretty ice-fountain! Either Sokka, Katara or (eventually, as I have to run out right now) both will answer!]

[Flavor? Like it matters. Cold is cold is cold and, as it stands, he's more tempted to pour it on his head than drink it. Hitsugaya shrugs one shoulder and points in the general direction of the fruit.] That one.

[In other words: He doesn't care. Pick for him.]

[Strawberry apple it is. Sokka will chop the fruit up (with his sword naturally), working to remove the skins, seeds, and other bits. And then... will it blend?

Let's ask Mr. Blender. Sokka dumps the fruit inside, turns it on, and once its all nice and liquidy, pours the contents over the icy sluch and hands it over.]

[ And Katara interjects now that she's finished freezing another layer of water. ]

Probably. He uses it for everything else.

Hitsugaya, this is my brother, Sokka. Sokka, this is Hitsugaya.

[A small wave.]

Everything else. [He's twitching, just a little. Swords aren't meant to be used that way. Ever.]

[He nods toward Sokka. That's about all he gets, but, hey, it's a thank-you and a hello and a nice to meet you all wrapped up into one tidy nod.]

Of course. It's sharp, it cut things. Things happen to fall into the "everything else" category.

[...Well, this conversation is going well. Time to interrupt before Sokka starts using his sword to pick his teeth.]

How's your slushie?

[Have a blank stare, Sokka. You can't honestly use your sword for all that, right? Really?]

[He shrugs one shoulder.] It's cold. [Which makes it the best thing ever. He nods toward the fountain.] Your work?

[Katara nods.] There was something like it in a desert in our world. I figured, it's hot enough. Might as well.

[He nods.] It's good. [So's the slushie.]

Maybe this will be the hottest it'll get.

That would be nice. But we haven't even hit this place's summer yet. I plan on freezing our walls if it gets too bad.

That's an idea. I might bypass the walls and just go for freezing the lake.

And then what? Live in the lake?

That might be better than sweltering.

Yeah, but it might make breathing difficult.

Some sacrifices are worth it.

The mountains would make more sense. Higher altitude, cooler weather.

[WHY YES, Sokka has been here the whole time barely caring about your conversation.]

[Sokka has a point. Hitsugaya likes where this is going. Musing a bit:]

Yeah, a lot less people. It probably has to do with the giant shapeshifting demon that likes to claim the mountains as his.
