[Stirring awake, the first thing she notices is that it's cold -- and it's not cold in the fire nation. Glancing up and around there are snowflakes all around her... and no one in her group.] Aang? Sokka? Toph?

Where are my clothes? [Shuddering, she rubs her arms together.]

[Time to get a little louder now, stomping around, and where is the fire and why is she in a forest?] Toph? Aang? Sokka!? This isn't funny!

Ow! What? What is this? [The sound of turning pages. She'll close it and start looking around in a minute for some shelter and her friends, not necessarily in that order. This Southern Watertribe girl is not about to get frostbite in some strange forest just because she woke up in weird clothes with no shoes.]

Magic, the power granted to us by nature and its spirits. The three elements are fire, thunder, and wind. There's no water magic as far as I know . . . I'm a fire mage, myself, though I can use the other two as well.

Magic... wait, three elements. [Sorry, I think you might have broke her for a minute. She's just going to stop and stare at you.] And you can use all of them?

[OOC: I figure we can just continue their conversation as they walked towards the river?]

Yeah, for elemental magic. Of course! 'Cept I need a tome for each one. I can also use staves to heal.

[Katara has decided that there is something wrong with your head or your world, she's not sure which] That's... really different. Where I'm... from [She can't bring herself to say 'world'] there are four elements. Water. Earth. Wind. Fire. Only the Avatar can master all four elements.

[But even if he is crazy, he's nice and they both still need to get out of the forest, so she'll just keep walking now.]

What are 'staves?'

In that case, does that mean you can only wield water?

A staff's a rod of sorts that we use to heal others. The stronger your magic, the more efficient you'll be at both fighting and healing. It gets handy down the road!

That's right. And my friend Toph can bend earth. And Aang, well. He's the last of the airbenders.

Oh, well. That makes sense, I guess. Even at home the stronger your bending the more you can do.

...how do you use a rod to do healing?

Earth and -- air? With Aang being the last of the airbenders, are they rare or something?

Our skills are similar in that case. You practice, you get better, and you can blast away your enemies and support your companions.

It's sorta simple. You wave the staff around, say a few words in the Old Tongue, and bam. Healing.

Well, now they are. The Fire Nation... you said you were primarily a fire bend-- mage? And you use fire to support your companions... even to heal?

Hm? Yeah. I use fire to toast my foes and apply staves to heal wounds. . . . Does it have something to do with this Fire Nation?

Where I'm from, only the Fire Nation can use fire. They attacked the other nations about a hundred years ago. The Avatar was the only one who could have stopped them, but he vanished. So the Fire Nation tried to make it that the Avatar could never be reborn... and that's why they killed all the airbenders. [Read: I'm not so sure about people who can use fire.]

The Avatar was meant to be reborn into the line of airbenders? I'm sorry. I kept talking about fire magic without knowing of the memories it might bring up.

No -- that's okay! I'm sorry. You're not responsible for any of that. You've been nothing but kind to me, Tormod. It's nice to see that not everyone who wields fire is a monster.

Aang remembers back when firebenders were just like.. regular people. None of us have that. It's good to see that people can handle it without the fire... making them cruel.

Hah . . . thanks, Katara. Isn't that the truth.

The elements are elements. Whether they're good or bad is associated with the people who use them. I'm glad to know that not everyone that wields fire is rotten.

[Katara... is not entirely willing to go that far. But she knows that Aang would say that was true, and she's trying to be nice, so she decides to let it drop.]

What's a thunder element do? Fire and wind make sense to me... but thunder?

Thunder? Thunder is, well, like thunder. When you cast it, it fries your foe from above.

Isn't that like lightning?

And is that all it can do?

I guess you could say that it's like lightning.

That's basically all magic can do. We fights and support each other with them. I'm sure I can think of creative ways to put them to use, though.

Oh, I see. Some bending is like that. Firebending, mostly. But bending has other uses too -- there was this one time we were in the Earth Kingdom? And this village was in danger of being wiped out by a volcano! So Sokka, Aang and I organized the villagers to fight it. Some of them were earthbenders and they dug deep trenches around the village to hold the lava. But in the end, Aang had to airbend the flow of the lava back because there was just too much.

That . . . that's amazing! Digging deep trenches just like that, pushing the flow of lava back? I can't imagine how handy bending must be. It sounds so convenient and interesting. If only magic in Tellius was as versatile, it could totally change a ton of things for the better.

Tellius? Is that where you're from? What's it like?

Well, it's the name of the continent I'm from, because that's all there is. That's my world for you: One giant continent.
