[Stirring awake, the first thing she notices is that it's cold -- and it's not cold in the fire nation. Glancing up and around there are snowflakes all around her... and no one in her group.] Aang? Sokka? Toph?

Where are my clothes? [Shuddering, she rubs her arms together.]

[Time to get a little louder now, stomping around, and where is the fire and why is she in a forest?] Toph? Aang? Sokka!? This isn't funny!

Ow! What? What is this? [The sound of turning pages. She'll close it and start looking around in a minute for some shelter and her friends, not necessarily in that order. This Southern Watertribe girl is not about to get frostbite in some strange forest just because she woke up in weird clothes with no shoes.]

Actually, the Southern Watertribe is really south. It's full of ice and snow. We're on the lowest end of the world, and the Watertribe... well, we're part of the Four Nations.

What about you? What's it like where you're from?

I have been few places full of snow, yet I find it peaceful. I find it much easier to train up there in the snow capped mountain.

There are four nations, Water, Earth, Air, Fire. One for each of the four elements. The Southern and Northern Watertribes are both at the poles, so we're used to the snow. Have you ever had sea prunes?

There were many nations back home, yet they were named for people. To be named for elements sounds intriguing.

Named for people? That's interesting. It sounds like something Azula would have liked. I guess we were named for the elements because our bending. That, and to remind us that it's only when we have peace that there is balance in the world.

Sea prunes are like... well. They're just like... ...you know, I don't know if I can describe them to you. You'd know them if you had them!

Peace is much preferable to the alternative. Telling one's family that their return was never to happen was something I never desired.

I have not heard of this bending. Is it similar to tempering steel?

We've been at war for a hundred years now... but I believe it can come to an end. And -- according to Sokka and Toph, it has! Which is.. amazing! I wonder what it's like now..

Sort of? If you think about how when steel is very hot you can move it however you want to, if you're strong enough. Benders can do the same thing with the elements.

I am sorry to hear of your lengthy war. I regret that when I arrived, my world was still at war.

No, not all of us can do that. I was the last waterbender in my tribe. Each nation has a different ability. Only the Avatar can master all four elements.

I am sorry to hear you are the last in your tribe, yet you say there is one that can master all four?

I have spent my life mastering the sword. Your Avatar must be an old man if he has master four elements.

They were all taken in the war. But... the Northern Water tribe still has plenty of waterbenders! That's where I learned how to really use my bending, from Master Pakku.

[Quick laugh] And, yeah, I guess you could say that he's old. He's 112 years old, really. But he spent 100 of those years trapped in an iceberg.

[His words are making her want to trust him.] Well, we got off easy. Aang's entire nation was wiped out. He's the last of the airbenders.

He's not really... old. While he was trapped in the iceberg, he didn't age. He looks like he's still a young boy.

Miss, I have seen an entire nation but one be wiped out as well. It was a horrendous and dishonorable act. It could have been avoided, if I had not been called away.

You say a boy is over 100 years old?

[Wondering if he is speaking to an old lady, but refusing to even hint at the question out or respect and honor.]

Do all your inhabitants age so gracefully?

Aang is, yes. But that's just him -- he's the Avatar. He went into some sort of trance that allowed him and Appa to survive in the ice until Sokka and I found him.

I have learned you must live with everything. It is a small consolation that I was not present when the order was made, yet the waste of life remains with me.

Your friend is indeed an interesting one to live with such power? I can but hope his is honorable Miss.

Oh, Aang is. He's the Avatar. He's got a lot of power, but he's going to need it in order help bring the world back into balance.

Can one man truly bring the world back into balance? I may have been General, but I depended on my men to carry out all my orders.

You're right. He's the Avatar, but he doesn't have to do it on his own. That's why he has us.
