[Today, Katara is on a mission. There are people she has to thank for giving her presents, and to that purpose she has prepared small pressed impressions of dried goldenrods in glass (thank you, Usopp and the item shop) or pressed into paper with the words 'Thank You' written on it, depending on what she thinks you'll like more. Yes, this has taken her all week.

She will either be dropping them off at your house, or meeting with you personally to touch base with you. There are a few other people she's on the look out for in particular, and several side missions she also hopes to accomplish. Feel free to bump into her at any point as she goes about her business, whether or not there is a dried flower for you!]

It's weird, isn't it? Knowing that we're going to go fight but not being in control of when or where...

Yes, it's rather disconcerting, especially since we're always reduced to waiting in some form. All we can do is prepare ourselves and hope that we'll truly be ready when the time comes.

[Speaking of preparing themselves...] I know that you're a powerful healer... but are you also able to fight?

To some degree, but defensive, mostly. I used to have a saying back home that women were better suited for battle. [She shakes her head with a small smile.]

Really? I've never heard anything like that, although the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation didn't seem to have a problem letting women fight too. [Nope. Just the stupid Northern Watertribe.]

How did the saying go?

... To be honest, it's been some time, so I don't remember the exact phrasing. Just more along the lines of how we tend to view things differently. In any case, you usually didn't see too many in an ordinary militia.

Oh. Is that what you had in your world - militias? In our world, the only nations which really had armies were the Earth Kingdom and the Fire Nation. In the Water Tribes, every man is trained to be a hunter and a warrior.

My world is a little complicated in that regard. Very few cities had their own standing armies, or even accomplished fighters... most areas were kept in check by a militant organization. Though things will likely change, since it's been dissolved...

So... in your world - there were soldiers who kept the law?

Not so much keeping the law as... [She frowns slightly. There really isn't a good way to explain this without going into complicated details, but-] Keeping... the towns in check. Some moreso than others. The towns mostly governed themselves. They were more of an outside force.

Oh. [Processing...] That sounds like how it was when the Fire Nation would take over Earth Kingdom towns. The towns would be cut off from the Earth Kingdom rule, and the Fire Nation soldiers would just... make sure they didn't cause trouble for the Fire Nation. And do whatever they wanted...

Yes, I suppose it's something like that. Except that the actual kingdom had long fallen into decline, while those forces became stronger.

I see... and you were a teacher before you came here, as well? If things were like that, then... who taught you how to fight?

I just... picked up a few things, here and there. It became easier to learn more once we began our journey.

[Ping!] Journey?

... More or less a journey to save the world from the state it had reached.

You too, huh? [And she smiles a little wryly.] That sounds about like what happened with us. Did you get to finish your journey before coming here?

We had just finished. At least, enough to go on our separate ways. There always will be something ahead of us to do.

[She nods.] That sounds like what Sokka says we have to look forward to, after the war. Sometimes you can't just stop things - you have to try to reset them.

Indeed. And there's always so much involved, whatever the case may be. Even if you succeed in reaching one goal, there will always be others.

[She grins.] It's not like that's a bad thing. What would we do if there was nothing to do?

Not very much at all.

So you'll be okay? Out on the battlefield, I mean?

I should probably get some practice in to be on the safe side where my reflexes are concerned, but I'll be fine.
